In a new article recapping The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment breakfast gala, Daily Mail misidentified Kerry Washington for Zoë Kravitz in multiple photo captions.
“Talent: Theron and Zoe Kravitz linked up backstage at the THR event,” one caption read with a photo of Washington, 42, and Charlize Theron. Another read, “Hug it out: The Monster star and the daughter of rocker Lenny Kravitz embraced warmly upon meeting at the event.”
Another photo showed Washington alone at the event with the caption, “Co-star: Reese’s co-star in the HBO hit Big Little Lies rocked a lacy corset top with a dark, flowing skirt.”
Readers immediately took notice and began calling out the outlet for the flub.
“Daily Mail…hire some people with an actual clue! That is not Zoe Kravitz… its Kerry Washington,” one commenter wrote.
Another reader commented on social media, “How dare a British daily news site get queens mixed up, saying this was @ZoeKravitz instead of Kerry. They need diverse fact checkers or sum idk. But we love all of these ladies; their acting alone is beyond!”
“This was a human error that we have now corrected,” a DailyMail.com spokesperson told Page Six in a statement Wednesday. “We apologize sincerely to Ms. Washington, Ms. Kravitz and our readers.”
The photos have since been removed from the article.
Washington presented her “Little Fires Everywhere” co-star Reese Witherspoon with the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at the annual event.
