Ellen DeGeneres seen on a walk with friend amid toxic claims

Ellen DeGeneres looked somewhat downcast during an outing with a friend this weekend, as the fallout from her talk show controversy continues.

The 62-year-old, who is married to actress Portia de Rossi, was pictured out and about in Santa Monica, California on Saturday afternoon with a female friend.

While walking through a car park, Ellen and the pal were engrossed in conversation and, at times, the daytime talk show host seemed lost in her own thoughts.

Ellen dressed casually for the afternoon out wearing a white t-shirt and cap with black shorts, trainers and dark sunglasses.

It comes as the furore surrounding the backstage environment as The Ellen Show continues to gather momentum.

The popular long-running talk show has been hit with allegations that former crew members had been mistreated by producers and other staff members.

Ellen, who was not personally involved in any cases of mistreatment, issued a statement last week apologising to her former colleagues.

‘I told everyone in our first meeting that The Ellen DeGeneres Show would be a place of happiness – no one would ever raise their voice, and everyone would be treated with respect,’ Ellen wrote in a letter sent to her employees according to The Hollywood Reporter.

‘Obviously, something changed, and I am disappointed to learn that this has not been the case. And for that, I am sorry.’

The comedian agreed to ‘take responsibility’ for the show as it was under her name, and added she was working alongside production company Warner Bros in order to heal the issue.

‘I am so proud of the work we do and the fun and joy we all help put out in the world,’ she continued.

‘I want everyone at home to love our show and I want everyone who makes it to love working on it. Again, I’m so sorry to anyone who didn’t have that experience.’

Reports soon followed that Ellen was ‘ready to call it quits’ in light of the controversy. However, the show’s executive producer Andy Lassner shut down any notion of this and simply stated on Twitter: ‘Nobody is going off air.’
