Jonnie Irwin’s wife, Jessica, admitted she finds herself thinking about the day her beloved husband is no longer around her and their three children. The A Place In The Sun presenter was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and revealed last year he had been given “months to live” at the time.
Jessica spoke out on her fears regarding the future and how she will approach motherhood to their three young sons – Rex, Rafa, and Cormac – as a widower.
She said: “I can think of the support I’ll need and that sort of thing but when it comes to me, my life is the boys. That’s enough for me.
“That’s where my thinking stops, it terrifies me that I’m suddenly going to be in a house on my own, the sole adult with three young boys.
“The prospect of being a single mum and a widow is awful to think about,” Jessica added to The Sun.
Jonnie issued an update yesterday saying his kids have “no chance” of remembering him if he were to die this year.
“Every time something really nice happens with them, I have this thing knocking at my door, saying, ‘Don’t get too happy because you’re not going to be around much longer,'” he explained.
The property expert went on: “Then I think they’re not going to remember me, they’re really not.
“They’re too young and if I die this year there’s no chance they will have memories.”
Jonnie had initially chosen to keep his illness private but decided to open up on his cancer in 2022.
He explained the first warnings of his illness came while he was filming A Place in the Sun in August 2020.
“Within a week of flying back from filming, I was being given six months to live,” he told Hello! magazine.
“I had to go home and tell my wife, who was looking after our babies, that she was on her own pretty much. That was devastating.”

The presenter has kept himself busy, even when his contract for A Place in the Sun was not renewed.
He has continued working on Escape to the Country and has embarked on multiple projects with the BBC.
Jonnie has also been overseeing the renovations currently underway in the Irwin family home.
Amid all his other projects, Jonnie took it upon himself to celebrate his milestone birthday early with a lavish bash.
Although he turns 50 in November, the presenter has already celebrated with 170 friends and family.
The event included the likes of co-star Jasmine Harman and ex-England cricketer Andrew Caddick.
Jonnie gushed over the support he saw that night, saying he was “dumbfounded and spellbound” by his loved ones.
