Kelvin Fletcher explains Death in Paradise absence after ‘calls and messages’ ‘I’m not on’

Kelvin Fletcher discusses his role on Death in Paradise

Former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher, 36, has addressed why he didn’t appear in the first episode of Death in Paradise season 10 last night. The Strictly Come Dancing champion took to Instagram to inform fans about the situation after receiving “phone calls and messages” from his loved ones and fans on social media who were “excited” to see him make his debut.

Kelvin explained that his episode of the BBC show won’t air “until about another two or three weeks”.

Speaking in a video which he shared with his 365,000 followers, the star said: “So I’ve had a few phone calls today and a few messages from friends and family, and even quite a few messages on social media from people excited about my debut on Death in Paradise this evening.

“I’m afraid I’m not on tonight. Still watch it, it starts tonight, 9 o’clock, BBC One, the new series of Death in Paradise.

“A great show, but my episode that I filmed isn’t until about another two or three weeks from now.

“So I’ll be in touch in the next couple of weeks to let you know when that’s on, but I’m not on this evening I’m afraid.”

Kelvin went on to encourage fans to still watch the first episode despite his absence.

He continued: “But don’t let that deter you, still tune in anyway.

“Like I say, it’s a great show and I had the most amazing time filming it.

“So over the next couple of weeks I’ll post some videos and shots from my time over there.

“But yeah, 9 o’clock tonight, Death in Paradise, make sure you’re watching anyway, but my episode is not on for another couple of weeks yet.”

Kelvin will be joined by several famous faces for the tenth anniversary of the show.

Comedian Jason Manford, Gbemisola Ikumleo (Famalam), Luke Pasqualino (Our Girl) and Patrick Robinson (Casualty) will also appear as members of the BBC drama’s guest cast.

Death in Paradise Executive Producer Tim Key said: “We’re delighted to announce our amazing guest cast and particularly grateful to them all for making the journey to Guadeloupe during such a difficult year to be part of the show.

“Every episode features some amazing performances from a host of famous guests who were all a pleasure to work with and we can’t wait for our viewers to try to work out which one of them dunnit!”

Death in Paradise’s official Twitter page also announced Kelvin’s exciting new role.

The tweet read: “#Emmerdale star and #Strictly sensation @kelvin_fletcher will be hotstepping it over to Saint Marie! #DeathInParadise.”

Jason previously excited fans when he sparked rumours that he and Kelvin would be joining the Death in Paradise cast before the official announcement.

Sharing a picture of himself and Kelvin on an aeroplane with his 306,000 followers, he said: “I’m flying with this mystery fella to a mystery destination for @BBCOne. But who is it and where am I going?”

A post shortly afterwards showed Kelvin applying sun lotion to his body, revealing their real destination.

“Tough start to our day here in Guadeloupe @kelvin_fletcher,” he wrote.

The detective drama is famously filmed on the French Caribbean island.
