Lena Headey Reportedly Refused To Appear In "Game Of Thrones" Scenes With Her Ex

Lena Headey played a queen on the now-over Game of Thrones, (a show which did not end up the winner shouting “Jenga!” or “Bingo!” like I had hoped). I’ve never seen GoT, but everything I know about it I learned from Shangela’s confessionals on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, and that seems like enough of a catch-up for me. But I do know who Cersei is; she’s the Queen who went from having long hair to short, and was played by Lena Headey. Lena may have been a perfect fit, because a rumor claims she’s much of a Queen off-screen as she is on. Whatever Lena wants, Lena gets. Like when she wanted to make sure her ex stayed as far away from her on set as possible.

The Sun says that rumors about Lena and Jerome Flynn, who played Bronn on GoT, becoming a thing started in 2002 after appearing together in the 1990s British TV series Soldier, Soldier. Jerome denied they were together. Lena went on to marry musician Peter Loughran in 2007 and they divorced in 2013. The details are a little murky, but The Sun alleges Lena and Jerome ended their affair in 2014. The dates are irrelevant in this case, because all you really need to know is that it was a mess when they split up. In 2014, it was reported by The Telegraph that Lena and Jerome hated each other so much, they weren’t on speaking terms, and couldn’t even be in the same room together.

Cut to 2019, and guess who still hated each other? Lena and Jerome. Sources tell The Sun that everyone on the GoT set was very conscious of Lena and Jerome’s hatred of each other, and they did everything possible to make sure they never crossed paths. In the books, Jerome’s character played a bodyguard for both of Cersei’s brothers, Tyrion and Jaime. Later in the books, he is hired as a bodyguard for Cersei. But fans were never going to see that happen, because according to The Sun, Lena specifically requested she never be near Jerome, regardless of whether the cameras were on. A source says

“Lena and Jerome have not filmed together due to a bad break-up. They kept the full extent of it secret but it was a very turbulent relationship and it has been very awkward on set. Lena has opened up to her trusted friends. She appears to have a genuine hate towards him.”

A spokesperson for Jerome has denied it was written into his contract that he never be in the same scenes as Lena. Forget that unfinished Game of Thrones book that George R. R. Martin has been sleeping on; what I really want to read is that contract! Rep denial or not, it sounds like that’s where the drama really is.

Lena was a big part of the show and made a ton of money, so of course the crew was going to do her such a big favor. I just can’t help but think that all that keep-away was one of the reasons why this last season of Game of Thrones had so many lazy on-set mistakes. Like Jaime’s missing hand. I’ll cut the crew some slack. It’s hard to check for continuity like hands when you’re too busy making sure there’s no traces of Lena’s ex on set.
