Maren Morris has earned her third No. 1 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay Chart with “Girl,” becoming the first female artist to top the chart in over a year.
“Girl” rose from 4th position to the top spot in its 28th week on the August 3-dated list, as it earned 37.4 million audience impressions, up 13%, according to Nielsen Music.
“I am so proud that ‘Girl’ is my third Billboard No. 1,” Morris told Billboard. “The title of the song alone feels like poetic justice breaking this year-and-a-half streak of a woman not having a No. 1 on [Country Airplay], so let’s be hopeful we never see that dry spell again.”
The last time a female artist topped the chart was in February of 2018 when Kelsea Ballerini‘s “Legends” led for one week.
“Girl,” the title song from Morris second studio album, was written by Morris with Greg Kurstin and Sarah Aarons.
The album, which released on March 8, debuted atop the Top Country Albums tally dated March 23, with 46,000 equivalent album units earned in its first week. Morris is currently touring in support of the album.
