Novak Djokovic will be returning to Centre Court today for the Wimbledon 2021 semi-final. His wife, Jelena Djokovic, has been a firm support for the star since they first met back as teenagers.

Jelena and Novak are childhood sweethearts, first meeting when the former was still in high school.

Since then, the couple has married and have two children together, Tara and Stefan.

However, things were not always smooth sailing for the besotted pair as they initially struggled with long distance.

Jelena admitted it was tough when she was studying for university while Novak was getting his start in tennis.

She said: “Us getting together was like science fiction almost.

“I was a student barely getting by, and he was a very young tennis player who also had no money to spare on expensive trips.

“Airplanes were, at the time, something utterly out of our reach.”

However, she added to Hello Magazine this reached breaking point when she was working an office job in Monte Carlo.

She continued: “At a certain point, Novak told me: ‘Darling, we cannot go on like this’.

“I was confined to the office almost at all times. It wouldn’t have been possible for our relationship to thrive if I had stayed there.”

Thankfully, Jelena was able to help found the Novak Djokovic Foundation, where she now acts as director.

The charity campaigns to help provide children in Serbia with education and development opportunities.

Jelena is also a mainstay on the ATP tour and often supports Novak in the stands for his matches.

The couple are known for sharing sweet moments on social media, including Novak’s recent win at Roland Garros.

To mark the occasion, Jelena shared a picture of them exchanging a kiss in view of her 139,000 followers.

Alongside this, she penned: “What a blissful moment!!!

“Cherishing every second, how much he gave himself to achieve this dream…

“@rolandgarros is a special place indeed. X2”

Novak also shares sweet moments with his wife, including a recent post of the pair in front of a beautiful sunset.
