The Great British Bake Off  favourites Paul Hollywood, 55, and Prue Leith, 81, joined Zoe Ball, 50, on her self-titled breakfast show today. The Channel 4 stars discussed all things baking with the BBC Radio 2 presenter before the judges were quizzed about their relationship.

Paul admitted that he and some of the team were “winding up” Prue during the new series of the cooking programme.

It comes after Zoe teased that a contestant in this year’s competition bares an uncanny resemblance to Prue.

The DJ told listeners: “Bake Off is back and I swear it’s better than ever.

“We have the wonderful Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood on the show this morning.”

She continued: “I have to say, Paul, one of the contestants is a Prue lookalike. How amazing was that?

“I won’t give too much away. But to almost have two Prues in the tent at one time. How was it?”

Paul replied: “It was quite funny. We did wind Prue up about it.”

The Bake Off star was making reference to show contestant Maggie, a retired nurse and midwife from Dorset.

Both Maggie and Prue share a likeness with their grey tresses also cut in a similar style.

Elsewhere, the Channel 4 stars were quizzed about their opinion of one another when they first met.

“I was in love with Prue before I met her,” Paul gushed. “You were leaning against an open door with me.”

Zoe then quizzed: “Awww Prue. Was the feeling reciprocated?”

But Prue cheekily joked she was initially “scared of Paul” when she first him on Bake Off.

She said: “I was scared of him actually. He knows a lot more about baking than I do.

“It turns out that we get on really well and in the five years we’ve been on there now, I don’t think we have ever disagreed about the order of baking.”

Prue added: “Occasionally, he’ll mark someone down and vice versa but we’re never more than an inch apart.

“We have never disagreed about who is the star baker.”

Bake Off will return for its 12th series tonight.

Once again, the 12 bakers have been filmed in a bubble because of the Covid pandemic.

Paul, Prue, Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding will all return for this series.

Bake Off airs tonight on Channel 4 at 8pm.
