Prince Willam has ‘lost his support act in Harry’, says royal expert

A royal expert has told OK! how Kate Middleton has become a pillar of strength for her husband Prince William after he lost his “support act” brother Prince Harry when the 38 year old took a step back from his royal duties.

“The last couple of years have been challenging,” royal author Katie Nicholl exclusively tells OK!.

“We’ve had the brothers falling out and Megxit, and I think it has been difficult for William.

“He’s lost his support act in Harry but he recognises that he has an invaluable support act in Kate.

"I think they are equally proud of each other but they‘ve really needed to be there for each other over these last couple of years and I think Kate has been a huge support at a time when he really needed it.”

It’s been a turbulent couple of years for the royal family. Not only did Harry and his wife Meghan Markle announce they were stepping down as senior working royals in 2020, but the couple then released a controversial Netflix documentary called Harry & Meghan which made a number of claims against The Firm.

Her Majesty The Queen also passed away in September, just 15 months after her husband Prince Philip died at the age of 99.

But Katie says the Prince and Princess of Wales are always there for one another in times of need.

“I have travelled the world with them and they are a brilliant team,” she says.

“They finish one another’s sentences and they are always there for each other, which is why it works.

“We’ve seen Kate as a solo act increasingly over recent years and she’s very capable on her own and very happy.

“But they’re also a very effective and powerful double act, so while I think we’ll see a lot of this, I think we will see more of Kate coming out on her own as the new Princess of Wales in 2023.”

William and Harry used to share a close relationship but it has been strained for the last few years.

And the Netflix docuseries will have done little to help relations, with Harry claiming his brother “screamed and shouted” at him during a meeting about himself and Meghan wanting to take a step back from royal duties at Sandringham.

"It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me, and my father say things that just simply weren't true, and my grandmother, you know, quietly sit there, and sort of take it all in,” Harry said in the show.
