Priscilla Presley admits she was originally ‘very concerned’ about new biopic

Priscilla: A24 release trailer for new film

Priscilla Presley has given Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla her stamp of approval, although her opinion of the movie wasn’t always positive.

As the controversial biopic releases across North America (it will be out January 2024 in the UK), Priscilla, 78, sat down for a Q&A event and sang the film’s praises.

However, she also admitted she had her fair share of fears at the start of the Hollywood project.

“I was very concerned about this movie,” she said at the South Point Casino in Las Vegas.

After seeing the final cut, she now says “I think it’s right on, to be honest with you.”

Based on her 1985 memoir Elvis and Me, Priscilla stars Jacob Elordi and Cailee Spaeny as the central couple.

Priscilla first met Elvis Presley when she was 14 and Elvis was 24, and the film touches on the significant age difference and power imbalance in their relationship.

“I love her filmmaking,” Priscilla said of Sofia. “I think she does a great job.

“She is for women, and when she approached me about doing a movie about me, I was moved by it.

“If anyone were to do a movie, it would be for her. I would never support another movie from anyone else doing it.”

Priscilla said they bonded over their connections to showbiz, with Sofia being the daughter of The Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola.

“She has such a big heart and her father is very famous and she really connected with me,” she said. “I have no problems with what she did in any way.”

Sofia “was so wanting it to be right”, Priscilla added, which convinced her the story would be told properly.

Priscilla also shared the reason why she didn’t choose to remarry after her six-year marriage to Elvis.

“I just don’t think that he could handle that,” she explained.

“To be honest with you, I never wanted to marry after him. I never had any desire. No one could ever match him.”
