‘Protective’ Meghan Markle both ‘nervous’ and ‘sweet’ as world meets baby son

Proudly showing off her baby boy to the world for the first time, new mum Meghan Markle gushed about the newborn and her husband Prince Harry .

The former actress is used to the limelight – but even she looked a little nervous as the new family faced the world's media.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex looked tired but thrilled as Harry cradled the two-day-old royal baby for the cameras in majestic St George's Hall in Windsor Castle.

The baby, whose name has not yet been announced, was overdue when he was born weighing 7lb 3oz at 5.26am on Bank Holiday Monday.

Former Suits actress Meghan, 37, had a sweet reaction as she and Harry introduced their son to the world on Wednesday, describing him as having the "sweetest temperament".

But many thought she looked a little shy and nervous at the big unveiling.

Tracey said on social media: "Aww I thought they looked a little nervous and Meghan seemed to be walking carefully! I bet all they really want is to be sat at home in their PJ’s, eating crisps and trying to work out if he is hungry, tired, needs changing, is too hot, too cold."

Tanisha commented: "She looked so nervous, bless her" while Selina echoed it with "So nervous, poor Meghan".

The boy is seventh in line to the throne, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh's eighth great-grandchild, and the Prince of Wales's fourth grandchild.

'Two best guys'

As Harry, 34, cradled their son, Los Angeles-born Meghan declared: "It's magic, it's pretty amazing.

"I have the two best guys in the world so I'm really happy."

She said of her son: "He has the sweetest temperament, he's really calm."

As they both laughed, Harry said: "I don't know who he gets that from."

'He's a dream'

The world was eager to get its glimpse of the royal baby as Meghan and Harry celebrated in private and adjusted to life as first-time parents.

After the public was left waiting for two days, Meghan said of her son: "He's just been the dream, so it's been a special couple of days."

The couple, who tied the knot at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle almost a year ago, introduced their son behind closed doors.

Only a small press pool of only one reporter, one photographer, three cameramen were present along with the couple's own private photographer and a household press officer photographer.

Baby's looks 'changing every day'

Asked who the baby takes after, Meghan said: "We're still trying to figure that out."

Harry added: "Everyone says that babies change so much over two weeks.

"We're basically monitoring how the changing process happens over this next month really.

"But his looks are changing every single day, so who knows."

'Parenting is amazing'

Baby Sussex was sleeping soundly, wrapped in a white blanket and wearing a delicate white knitted hat as his parents gushed about him.

Asked how he was finding parenting, Harry said: "It's great. Parenting is amazing.

"It's only been two-and-a-half days, three days, but we're just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy."

Harry said they were looking forward to spending some "precious times with him as he slowly, slowly starts to grow up."

'He's already got facial hair'

Asked about going to see the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, Meghan said: "We just bumped into the duke as we were walking by, which was so nice.

"So it'll be a nice moment to introduce the baby to more family, and my mum's with us as well."

Harry added: "Another great-grandchild."

Later, asked to show more of their son's face to the cameras, Meghan laughed as Harry joked: "He's already got a little bit of facial hair as well, wonderful."

Meghan added: "Thank you everybody for all the well wishes and kindness, it just means so much."

The public will now wait to find out the baby boy's name.

Meghan and Harry, who are just 11 days away from their first wedding anniversary, were beside themselves with joy, giggling and looking into each other's eyes as they spoke.

The duke gently cradled his son in his arms and could not resist sneaking a peek down at him.

Meghan put her hand on the small of Harry's back as she listened to him talk.
