Selena Gomez Finds Her Voice at the Cannes Film Festival: Social Media is “Dangerous” for Young People

Promoting her film The Dead Don’t Die during a cast press conference at the Cannes Film Festival, Selena Gomez – the third most popular person on Instagram with over 150 million followers – took a strong position against the influence of social media on society.

Selena did not hold back when answering a question from one member of the press corps. Even sitting among the world-famous actors surrounding her, Selena seemed to find her own voice and said that the negative effects of social media on young people frankly “scares” her.

“It’s dangerous for sure,” Selena told the reporter. “I don’t think that people are getting the right information.”

“Social media has really been terrible for my generation,” she continued. “I understand that it is amazing to use your platform. But it does scare me when you see how exposed that these young girls and young boys are, and they’re not really aware of the news or anything going on.

“I think it’s pretty impossible to make it safe, at this point,” she added.
