After experiencing a horrific accident in which he broke his back in three places, Simon Cowell will miss the finals of Britain’s Got Talent, it has been reported.

The 60 year old star broke his back after falling off an electric bike at his Malibu home, and he’s recovering in Los Angeles after the accident.

An insider has since told the Mirror that Simon won’t be there for BGT finals which he was initially set to attend via videolink.

The music mogul and dad-of-one has been present for BGT ever since it first aired in 2007.

“Everything is fixed, he just needs healing time,” the insider began, adding: “Flying halfway across the world is not part of the plan and he has agreed to put his health first.”

The source continued to tell the Mirror: “It was decided that the idea of having him judge the BGT finalists via a link was just not feasible – nor sensible.”

Britain’s Got Talent is set to return in two weeks with social distancing taking place, with judges Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon still on the panel.

Now the challenge to find a stand-in for Simon is on, with pre-recorded shows set to take place on Saturday evenings across the autumn.

BGT acts based abroad, or who have vulnerable members, will be filmed outside of the studio amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite reportedly taking a few steps days after the accident, Simon has been forbidden from undertaking any dangerous hobbies in the future by girlfriend Lauren Silverman, according to reports.

A close family insider said: “Lauren doesn’t want him to ride one of those bikes again, so he’s agreed with his friends and family to get rid of them as soon as he’s out of hospital.

“The power of the bike was unbelievable when he changed the setting up to the second one. The bike just flew into the air.

“Thankfully he let go of the bike as he fell backwards and it didn’t land on him,” they continued to The Sun.

The source aded: “The hardest thing is stopping Simon from getting back to work too fast. He never wants to stop.”
