Carrie Ann Inaba's DWTS Getting-Ready Diary: 'Season 29 Is the Season I Want to Take Some Risks'

Week 1: Carrie’s Back

“It felt so great to be back in the ballroom with my DWTS family,” Carrie Ann tells PEOPLE. “This season I have decided to have more fun with my look, take some risks — I even went blonde tonight. I have an incredible team and we worked hard together to creatively put together a look that made me feel good and also was different than anything I had done in seasons past. Season 29 is the season where I wanted to take some risks, I wanted to take it, as Tyra Banks says ‘to the next level’ and I think we did just that.”

Week 1: The Dress

“The race for the coveted Mirrorball began tonight as Carrie Ann sparkled her way back into the ballroom with a slinky silver gown by WONÁ Concept,” says stylist Rhonda Spies, who accessorized with jewelry from Cirari and Dena Kemp. “More is more and less is a bore when it comes to Dancing with the Stars,” Spies added.

Week 1: The Makeup

“For the premiere of Season 29, we kept her makeup soft, with a little DWTS glitz of course,” says makeup artist Marylin Lee Spiegel. “A little sparkle on her eyelid using Smith & Cult Glitterbaby metallic-shift eye shadow in Bronze, and a glow on her cheeks using Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit palette in Ghost. Her peachy lips are topped off with Mac Lipglass in Good Juju.”

Week 1: The Hair

Dancing with the Stars wasn’t the only thing premiering tonight. It was also the debut of the new blonde bombshell Carrie Ann!” says hairstylist Glenn Nutley. To accentuate her long length, he prepped her hair using R&Co Dallas Thickening Spray. Then he gave Carrie Ann a loose wave with a “very large” curling iron and finished with Oribe Superfine Hairspray.

Week 1: Return to the Ballroom

“To sit in my seat again and hold my paddles felt like home,” Carrie Ann shares. “After all, it’s been 29 seasons, I haven’t missed a show, neither has Bruno [Tonioli]. It was great to bring back old family members and to welcome new family members to the show.”

“It’s exciting to see how the show is evolving and I am proud to be a part of TV history bringing DWTS to air during these unprecedented times. We are taking all precautions to ensure things are shot in a safe way and are determined to be able to bring joy to folks at home who need it. I feel so grateful to be a part of the DWTS family and I am so thankful for our amazing DWTS crew.”
