I sold my first home to live in a static caravan in the middle of a muddy field – I was terrified but I love it | The Sun
A 23-YEAR-OLD woman has opened up about her decision to sell her first house and move into a static caravan in the middle of nowhere.
And while she admitted that she had some initial regrets after getting the keys to the vehicle she now calls home, she now couldn’t be more thrilled with her choice.
Lucy Robathan was just 18 when she got herself on the property ladder – but four years later she had a serious change of heart.
Lucy explained: “I bought my first home at 18 and last year, at 22 years old, I sold it to live off grid in the UK.
“It may sound extremely crazy to some people, but I am honestly more happy than ever now.”
After setting her heart on remote living, Lucy found a buyer and moved into the static caravan in “a muddy field in the UK” last November – something she says looking back was “the scariest decision”.

I live in a static caravan, I paid £150 for it and it’s been our home for a year
And she almost immediately questioned her decision – admitting the cold weather took its toll.
She confessed: “I thought, ‘what the hell have I done?’
“Literally, it was cold, it was freezing, and our solar panels weren’t powered.
“They weren’t even connected, we hadn’t even got them.”

But after putting in the hard work, Lucy has managed to transform it into a real home, complete with a fully-equipped kitchen that wouldn’t look out of place in any other property.
Since then, Lucy has also shared the ups and downs of her renovation on her TikTok account @lucyrobathan – and her latest update showed that there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel.
Despite admitting that they still had “a long way to go” with their renovation plans, Lucy continued that she couldn’t believe the progress they’d made since first stepping foot in the caravan.
Capturing magical moments from the past few months, Lucy showed how her life had transformed.
It now includes early morning dog walks, amazing views and capturing shots of the wildlife that live in the fields nearby.

She explained: “I’ve now got my three dogs down here.
“This was my view in the winter – how beautiful – from my kitchen window.
“I now have alpacas, horses, pigs, goats surrounding me, I do workouts in the sunset, I’m growing my own fruit and veg.
“I have never been more content and happy and I recently started up my own dog walking and daycare business.”
Seemingly encouraging others to take the leap if they had always dreamed of doing it, Lucy said: “I just feel like when you do something that makes you happy, content and peaceful, then everything falls into place.”
Summing up her thoughts, she ended her video with a view of a stunning sunset, as horses walked around in the background.
