Kristin Lawlor, Erik Cuello

Kristin S. Lawlor and Erik Jose Cuello were married Oct. 12 in Nyack, N.Y. James Freeman, a friend of the couple who became a Universal Life minister for this event, officiated at the Nyack Seaport, an events space.

Ms. Lawlor, 36, is an English and journalism teacher at the Young Women’s Leadership School of the Bronx, an all-girls public school. She graduated from American University and received a master’s degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages from Columbia.

She is a daughter of Kathleen M. Nigro of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The bride’s mother is a financial-aid specialist at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie.

Mr. Cuello, 35, is the director for housing and community engagement for New York City Councilman Mark Levine. The groom graduated from Lehman College, and is studying for a master’s degree in public administration at Baruch College in Manhattan.

He is the son of Myriam D. Ponce and Domingo Cuello, both of Manhattan. The groom’s mother retired as an administrative assistant at the Goddard Riverside Community Center in Manhattan. His father works for the New York City Parks Department as a parks supervisor for work force development at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Flushing, Queens.

The couple met in 2015 on the dating app Tinder, and had their first date at Buddha Beer Bar in Manhattan.
