There's an ongoing hunt for the scissors in our household. One family member thinks they belong in the third drawer, another tosses them in with the cutlery, and the neatest of us opts for the stationery tray. If we owned these brass geometrical scissors, however, they could happily be displayed on the coffee table next to the vase and stack of design books – never to be misplaced again.

Following its successful debut last year, Australia's largest beauty event, Meccaland, will be held in Sydney from May 17 to 19. The event by Melbourne-based retailer Mecca will feature booths by 40 brands from around the globe, and host influencers such as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Zoë Foster Blake and Chloe Morello. Smiley basketball, $84


You'll be grinning from ear to ear when shooting hoops with the delightfully expressive Smiley basketball. This regulation-sized ball is designed by New York-born, LA-based streetwear designer Michael Cherman in an official collaboration with heritage brand Smiley. Already a collector’s item, the ball is made from premium composite leather and 100 per cent nylon windings. It also comes in a frown version – but that one’s fittingly sold out.
