Engagement ring with 'crooked' stone slammed by Facebook users

Bride-to-be’s engagement ring is slammed on Facebook for its ‘crooked’ stone which people liken to the Leaning Tower of Pisa

  • Photograph of sparkler shared to the Facebook group ‘That’s it, I’m ring shaming’
  • Woman who posted image revealed her OCD ‘can’t handle’ its off-centre design
  • Post attracted nearly 350 comments with many sharing her distaste for the ring

An engagement ring with an off-centre stone is causing a furore on Facebook, with people likening it to the Leaning Tower of Pisa and obsessive compulsive disorder sufferers claiming it plays havoc with their condition.

The generously-sized sparkler was spotted on Instagram and shared to the Facebook group That’s it, I’m ring shaming by one of its members, from an unknown location.

The ring features a large teardrop-shaped diamond set on a simple rose gold band – and rather than sitting symmetrically in the centre, the point of gem leans to the right.

The original poster wrote of the slanting stone: ‘I saw this on Instagram and cringed. My OCD can’t handle it!’

They added: ‘If you guys must know, I do have an official diagnosis of OCD among other equally s***** neropsych things (sic).

‘I’m not trying to make light of any situation or stand or not stand for anything. I’m simply stating a TRUE fact, which is that even on a large dose of medication for OCD, this still bothers me to no end. It literally makes my heart race when I look at this picture. That’s it. Just stating a fact. I have OCD and this bothers me.’

Her sentiment was shared by many on the group, with a number admitting they too struggle to look at the ‘crooked’ stone.

One even went so far as to suggest the post should have come with a ‘trigger warning’.

‘Aaahhh, jeez! It looks like a compass trying to point north or something?’ one moaned.

‘Looks like she snagged it on her dresser,’ another observed, while one wrote: ‘My anxiety has just sky-rocketed.’

One claimed the ring made them feel ‘irrationally angry’ while another admitted: ‘I would constantly try to straighten it out subconsciously.’

‘It’s bothering my OCD as well, I want to straighten it like it’s a knob,’ one Facebook user commented, as another likened it to a ‘Ouija board pointer’.

Many shared memes to illustrate their ill-feeling towards the ring design, with one posting a shot of the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
