Living next to famous royals would be a dream come true for many fans. With reports coming out that Kate Middleton got close with Rose Hanbury after the two of them became neighbors, there are no doubt a lot of royal followers who would love to know how much it would cost to live alongside another royal couple – Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
So how much money would you need in a bank account in order to afford a house near the Duke and Duchess of Sussex? Read on below to find out.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry live in Frogmore Cottage
When Meghan Markle first joined the royal family in 2018, she moved into Kensington Palace, where Prince Harry had been living with Prince William and Kate Middleton (along with several other royals).
However, after a few months, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex began looking elsewhere for more privacy as they were expecting their first baby. They settled on Frogmore Cottage, which is a part of the royal family’s estate in Windsor, Berkshire – a countryside town about 30 minutes outside of London.
Before their son was born, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had been busy renovating Frogmore Cottage. It used to be a house for staff members, so they worked hard to transform it into a place fit for a young royal couple.
The two of them installed an environmentally-friendly nursery as well as a gym and yoga studio. The home also has rooms for Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, who recently moved in with her daughter and son-in-law to help take care of their new baby.
A house near Meghan Markle and Prince Harry is on sale for $1.4 million
A few minutes’ drive from Frogmore Cottage is a single house that is reportedly on the market for around $1.4 million (£1,125,000).
The home has three stories, four bedrooms, front and rear gardens, and a garage. It also needs a makeover, so buyers who would like to take on a renovation project just like what Meghan Markle and Prince Harry did would surely love this house.
Additionally, Winkworth’s website notes that the property can be extended as well: “By separate agreement a parcel of land can be purchased at the rear of the house which could provide additional garaging/parking or subject to the usual planning consents secondary accommodation for guests or rental investment.” The price for that is around $316,000 (£250,000).
Some people say that the area near Frogmore Cottage is haunted
While living near Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sounds amazing, it is perhaps not a good idea for people who get easily spooked by ghosts.
Frogmore Cottage and this four-bedroom home on the market are both located close to Windsor Castle, where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got married. The place definitely has a rich history, but that also means that reports of ghost sightings are abundance.
King Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, Queen Elizabeth I, and Queen Victoria are among the long list of deceased people to have allegedly been seen at Windsor Castle, which has its own burial ground. It is thought to be the most haunted places in all of Great Britain.
The hauntings at Windsor Castle are the ones that are known internationally. However, the whole Windsor area has other chilling stories as well that only locals know about. Fans of the paranormal would no doubt love living here.
Nevertheless, perhaps a good attitude is all that is needed to be in the Windsor area. Prince William and Kate Middleton live in Kensington Palace, which is filled with plenty of ghost stories of its own.
An insider shared that the couple are not scared, however, reportedly saying that “no old home would be complete without its ghost.”
