May bank holiday supermarket opening times 2022: Are Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Aldi open this weekend?

BANK holidays are upon us, but if you're looking to celebrate with some retail therapy, be warned: opening times at supermarkets may be affected.

However,though their hours may be reduced, you should be able to you should still be able to pick up what you need.

Stores normally will only close completely on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday, so this bank holiday you will be able to visit your favourite supermarket.

Opening times will vary between stores, so make sure you check them beforehand.

Aldi opening times

Aldi is keeping its doors open over the bank holiday, although opening hours have been reduced slightly.

On the bank holiday Monday, it will open from 8am and close two hours early at 8pm.

Times can vary so it's best to check with the store locator tool that Aldi provides to be on the safe side.

Aldi has around 900 shops in the UK. Here's when you can expect them to be open:

  • Saturday April 30: 8am – 10pm
  • Sunday May 1: 10am – 4pm
  • Monday May 2: 8am – 8pm

Asda opening times

Asda has advised shoppers to use its store locator tool, as opening times on bank holiday Monday may differ.

Asda has more than 600 shops in the UK and the majority of them will be closing by 8pm on Monday (May 2).

Some stores run 24 hours but it's unlikely that this will be the case on the bank holiday.

But don't forget to check with the store locator for your nearest Asda just in case.

The majority of Asda stores will be open:

  • Saturday April 30: 7am – 10pm
  • Sunday May 2: 10am -4pm
  • Monday May 2: 8am – 8pm

Co-op opening times

The Co-op hasn't published its opening times for the bank holiday weekend.

We've checked a few branches using its store opening times tool online to give you an idea of what to expect.

It appears its shops will be open over bank holiday Monday and run like Sunday hours.

Stores vary vastly in times across the country anyway so it is best to check the times of your local store just in case.

The Co-op has more than 2,000 stores in the UK.

  • Monday May 2: 10am – 4pm

Iceland opening times

Iceland is definitely keeping its doors open this bank holiday Monday.

The supermarket hasn't confirmed exactly when it will be opening over the long weekend.

It looks as though the store intends to keep standard opening hours across the whole weekend and Monday.

But you can check its locator tool to know if your nearest branch is closing any earlier than normal.

Iceland has over 900 shops in the UK.

  • Monday May 2: 8am or 9am and shut between 6pm and 11pm

Lidl opening times

Lidl will be closing two hours earlier than it usually does on bank holiday Monday.

This means that the majority of stores will be open 8am to 8pm, but this could vary depending on store size and location.

The supermarket has around 800 shops in the UK.

You can use its store finder tool to find out where your nearest branch is.

  • Monday May 2: 8am – 8pm

M&S opening times

Like many other stores, M&S is cutting its hours this bank holiday Monday.

Most stores will open at 8am on Monday and Saturday and close at 7pm or 8pm.

Some stores are running much reduced hours from 9am, while other 24 hour stores are going to stay open their usual hours.

Not all stores are extending opening hours though – it's best to check using the M&S opening times tool to see when your nearest is open.

M&S has more than 1,000 shops in the UK.

  • Monday May 2: 7am – 8pm

Morrisons opening times

Morrisons opening times over the Bank Holiday could vary across the country.

On Monday (May 2) the stores will likely be operating at reduced hours from 7am to 8pm, although this might vary depending on the store.

Stores usually open from around 6am to 11pm on a typical weekday or Saturday.

Regular hours should be in place for the rest of the bank holiday weekend.

You can use Morrisons' locator tool to find out where your nearest store is and what hours they will be open on Monday.

There are around 500 Morrisons in the UK.

  • Monday May 2: 7am – 8pm

Sainsbury’s opening times

Sainsbury's opening hours this Monday could be different to what they usually are for some stores.

Stores usually close around 11pm on a regular weekday.

But on Bank Holiday Monday, most larger stores will only be open from 8am to around 8pm.

This means you'll have, on average, three hours less time to shop.

Check the Sainsbury's opening times page on its website for your nearest branch.

The supermarket has 600 supermarkets and 800 convenience stores.

  • Monday May 2: 8am – 8pm (larger stores) or 7am – 11pm (convenience stores)

Tesco opening times

Most Tesco stores are operating slightly reduced hours over Bank Holiday Monday.

Opening times are typically 6am to 11pm or midnight.

But on Bank Holiday Monday, most Tesco superstores will be open 8am to 6pm.

The smaller Express stores will probably operate from 7am to 11pm but use Tesco's store finder to see when your nearest is open.

There are just shy of 4,000 Tesco branches in the UK.

  • Monday May 2: 8am – 6pm.

Waitrose opening times

On Bank Holiday Monday, Waitrose will be closing at 6pm, giving shoppers three hours less time to shop in the evening.

The store is also opening half an hour later than usual at 8am, so still ok for all you early risers!

Some stores are opening later at 9am, so check Waitrose's shop finder tool to check exactly when your store is open.

There are just under 400 Waitrose shops in the UK.

  • Monday May 2: 8am – 6pm
