My mum passed from Covid and I am haunted by it – it is affecting my life

DEAR DEIDRE: AT the end of last year I lost Mum to coronavirus and now I’m having horrible nightmares about her.

She was a nurse, just 49, and caught the virus at work.

At first she seemed OK but when she started struggling with her breathing, I had an awful feeling. Eleven days later, she was gone.

Now, every time I close my eyes, I see her lying in a hospital bed. She is lifeless and all I can hear is the machines beeping.

I wake up dripping in sweat and struggle to get back to sleep afterwards.

I haven’t had a proper night’s sleep since and it’s beginning to affect my work. I’m a teacher and 26.

DEIDRE SAYS: Losing a loved one is one of life’s awful experiences – and it is especially difficult that she was so young. Try to talk about your mum, remember her achievements and perhaps find a special way to commemorate her life.

Know this will pass and you will learn how to live with your loss in time.
