Dressing for the races is a fancy affair. If you’re lucky enough to attend, it’s the perfect chance to don a fashion-forward frock and artistic hat – and for those of us at home, it’s the perfect time to get a little inspo for any upcoming summer events.
Choosing an outfit for Royal Ascot isn’t easy though as racegoers have to stick to very strict dressing protocols when deciding their looks. These rules include rigid guidelines on hat size and dress length with anything even slightly skimpy a complete no-no. In order to have a grand day out at the races, attendees are always happy to comply.
This week we saw the return of the prestigious annual Ascot meet, and it’s safe to say that visitors welcomed the event with open arms as some of our favourite members of The Royal Family, TV stars and the public all graced the grounds.
Here are out favourite looks from the week – and there are some real showstoppers.
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall
We have to start with The Duchess of Cornwall, who is someone who often surprises us with her chic outfits.
Camilla coordinated her blue, striped coat dress, by one of her favourite designers Bruce Oldfield, with a Phillip Tracey hat and a true 2021 must-have: a matching face mask.
Zara and Mike Tindall
Attending the first day of the event, royal couple Zara and Mike Tindall, who welcomed their son Lucas in March, made sure to start the week off on a high.
Whilst Mike looked handsome in his formal suit and top hat attire, Zara sported a gorgeous, contrasting polka dot dress from Me+Em.
Someone you may not have expected to see on our list is none other than Prince Charles, who decided to recycle the grey morning suit he previously wore to attend the wedding of his son Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The Royals are known for re-wearing their favourite pieces so it’s no wonder Charles chose to start the week off in this smart outfit.
One attendee who always looks her best is Charlotte Hawkins, who was there to present live TV coverage.
The presenter kicked off the week in a seriously stylish look, as she sported an elegant grey and yellow Laura Green London dress with a matching Laylaleigh Millinery fascinator and Radley London trunk bag.
One lady that is no stranger to attending the races is Made In Chelsea girl Georgia Toffolo.
Toff opted for a custom made Cinderella blue dress by Hannah Sophia England, which had dramatic details such as puff sleeves and a large bow on the back.
The look was accessorised with a Jess Collett Milliner hate, Amina Muaddi pumps and By Rotation x ROOP bag.
Princess Anne made sure to stick to the strict dress codes and donned a sophisticated green silk dress.
The 80s inspired, puff sleeve number had a jacquard pattern which left the Princess Royal looking regal and chic as she accessorised the outfit with her go-to sunglasses, cream court heels and a matching bag.
She also sported a gold leaf brooch a pin which was a tribute to the Jockey Club she’s a member of.
Swapping the dance floor for the not-so-sleek (and slightly muddy) grass, Strictly Come Dancing professional Janette Manrara made sure her personality shone through in a flamenco-inspired dress.
Janette opted to spice Ladies Day up on Thursday in a bold Queens of Archive floral dress complete with a plunging v-neckline and a daring thigh high split.
The saucy ensemble was finished off with a brilliant Sarah Cant hat which echoed the vibe of the dress. Oh la la!
Proving that you don’t always have to go big and bold to ooze glamour and sophistication, Strictly star Emma Weymouth kept things simple in a nude lace dress by designer brand Dolce & Gabbana ,which was excellently matched with her elegant court heels.
Sophie, Countess of Wessex
One royal who has always been on top of their fashion game is none other than Sophie Wessex who started the week off in a simple yet regal outfit.
The beautiful blonde decided to wear a satin ARoss Girl x Soler dress and made sure to match the flattering outfit with her classic accessories.
Sophie, Countess of Wessex
We told you that The Countess is someone to watch and on the second day of Royal Ascot, Sophie upped her style game with a gorgeous purple and white look.
Embracing the sunshine, Sophie chose to go bold with a floral skirt by designer Suzannah and teamed it with a clean white blouse again from ARoss Girl x Soler.
If the skirt wasn’t enough, the look was finished off with a grey and lavender ostrich feather hat which definitely caught everyones attention for the right reasons.
Michelle Darlow and Lauren Goodwin-Grafton
Now these two ladies might not be known by all but they are loved by us here at OK!.
Our very own Group Fashion & Beauty Director Michelle Darlow and Fashion Editor Lauren-Goodwin Grafton took to the races on Tuesday and showed the ladies how to dress to impress.
Michelle opted for a lovely, floral Self Portrait dress from fashion rental service Hirestreet. She finished off the stunning look with a pink fascinator by Merve Bayindir, and her favourite Sophia Webster sunflower sandals.
Lauren was typically chic in a belted mini dress and co-ordinating fascinator by Phase Eight. She paired the mint number with her favourite bag from Aspinal Of London.
As the races continue, we can’t wait to see what other Royal ladies and celebrities choose to wear over the last few days at Ascot.
