Spanish politician Begona Villacis is compared to Meghan Markle

Inspired by Meghan? Spanish politician looks VERY similar to the Duchess as she introduces her own newborn on election day (and even opts for a white dress like the royal)

  • Spanish politician Begona Villacis has been compared to the Duchess of Sussex
  • The Madrid mayoral candidate introduced her newborn daughter on Sunday
  • She wore a white trench similar to one Meghan wore to introduce baby Archie
  • Villacis even married on the same day as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex

A Spanish politician has been compared to the Duchess of Sussex after stepping out in a white coat that looked just like one worn by the royal.

Madrid mayoral candidate Begona Villacis, 40, donned the trench as she introduced her newborn daughter to the public on election day last Sunday – just weeks after Meghan wore a similar ensemble for her first photocall with baby Archie.

The politician, a mother of three, also wore her hair in a similar straight style to the one chosen by the Duchess of Sussex, 37, adding to the likeness.

The striking similarity has drawn widespread attention in local news and on social media, with several commentators suggesting Ms Villacis – who has been compared to Meghan on a number of occasions – had deliberately chosen to mirror the royal.

The similarities between the politician and the royal are well-documented, with Ms Villacis even commenting on their likeness in interviews and on social media.

She once jokingly posted on Twitter: ‘Between Buckingham Palace and the City Hall, I am sorry but I am going to stay in Madrid.’

On a separate occasion she wrote: ‘People always stop me in the street to ask me if I am Meghan. It can be very funny sometimes. My daughters tease me about it a lot.’

The links between the pair extend beyond their looks and wardrobe choices.

Ms Villacis tied the knot on the same day as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in May last year and gave birth to daughter Ines within days of Archie Harrison’s arrival.

The world has been waiting for a glimpse of the newest member of the Royal Family, but of course we want to see the proud new parents too!

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex introduced their newborn son Archie at Windsor Castle last week, and they looked positively glowing with pride.

We all remember the Jenny Packham dresses that the Duchess of Cambridge wore when leaving the hospital with each of her three children, and we're certainly going to remember this beautiful look on Meghan.

She teamed a belted white double breasted midi dress by Wales Bonner, with her Jennifer Meyer turquoise necklace and some nude suede court shoes by Manolo Blahnik.

British designer Grace Wales Bonner's pieces are all about clever tailoring, which explains the tuxedo detail on this elegant midi.

Feeling inspired to copy Meghan's new motherly style? We love the dress/jacket hybrid design, and we've rounded up some similar alternatives below. Wear with nude pumps, or layer with some cropped culottes.

Ms Villacis’ most recent appearance came on Sunday, when she stepped out to cast her vote at the polling station.

Spain held local, regional and European Parliament elections across the weekend, with Ms Villacis’ standing as a candidate for the Spanish Ciudadanos (Citizens) Party.

It was the first time the mother-of-three, who has two older daughters aged 12 and 13, had been seen in public with newborn Ines.

The politician was the picture of pride as she strolled to the polling station while pushing Ines’ pushchair.

Well-wishers stopped to greet the new mother – and meet the baby.

The candidate’s white trench coat featured the same neckline and distinctive tortoiseshell buttons as the Duchess’ Grace Wales Bonner creation – although it is not thought to have been by the same designer.

Ms Villacis even chose to tie the coat in the same way as Meghan – with a large bow high on the torso.
