Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse took the world by storm. A highly stylized animated Spider-Man movie with Peter Parker as a supporting character with a very complicated, dimension-jumping plot seemed risky. However, fans loved it, and with the sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer revealing a mysterious hero (or villain) grabbing Miles Morales, audiences wonder about the identity of the mysterious figure.
Who grabbed Miles Morales in the ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ trailer
Miles Morales jumped back into the Spider-Verse with Gwen Stacy from Earth-65. However, as he jumped into another dimension, a Spider-Man villain struck out at him.
The move should look familiar to fans of the first Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The way the attacker reared back a clawed hand before snagging Miles mimics how the Prowler moved.
However, this character does not wear purple and green. They wear red and blue like many of the Spider-people.
Fans who stuck around until the end credits of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse got a glimpse at another Spider-Man (who hilariously recreated the ‘Spider-Man pointing meme’). Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, was the one who burst from the Spider-Verse to grab Miles Morales in the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer.
Will Spider-Man 2099 play the role of a hero or villain in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’?
While he strikes out at Miles Morales like the villain from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, he is a Spider-person. Could he fill the role of a hero or villain in the Spider-Verse sequel?
So far, beyond the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer, not much information has dropped about the sequel movie.
“Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga,” the official plot synopsis reads.
Miles returns for “an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy,” it continued. “And a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.”
While Miles and Gwen might tangle with Spider-Man 2099 at first, he will likely be the catalyst for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse plot. He could even lead the charge against the movie’s villain. If it’s anything like Spider-Man: No Way Home, they could have their hands full.
What other Spider-people could join Miles, Gwen, and Miguel?
While the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer only teased Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and Spider-Man 2099, some news outlets reported some new and familiar faces looking to join them. It might not be Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield, but it’s just as exciting.
“Well, I’ve been working on a contract. I believe Peter B Parker is making a return,” Peter B. Parker’s voice actor Jake Johnson told The Movie Dweeb (around 9:40). “I heard nothing for the longest time, and I was very sad, I really loved playing Peter B Parker. I would like to know what happens with Peter B Parker, I think the way his journey ended in the first movie was very open-ended.”
Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly confirmed Issa Rae (Insecure) would join as Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman.
Digital Spy reported directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller “want to see Silk…and Spider-Punk in future films.”
The Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer only showed off three Spider-people. However, the film looks to have just as many, if not more, Marvel heroes in the sequel.
