The welded bracelet trend will give you the ‘thrill’ of a tattoo or piercing ‘without the pain’.
While ‘permanent jewellery’ has been around since 2021, produced by London-based Astrid and Miyu, other brands have since followed suit, and fans are raving about them once more.
‘Zapping’ is another name for applying permanent jewellery. And the method of having a bracelet or anklet permanently welded around your wrist or ankle is being likened to having a tattoo.
The trend is popping off once again, after a TikTok user @Lucyisdewy posted a video of herself getting a gold chain.

The TikToker opted for a thin gold bracelet with her initials on and a cute little love heart. She documented the process on the social media site, showing her followers how easy it is to get one done
The process involves specialists zapping two ends of the bracelet, as they use a tiny flame to melt the pieces together
The final product. TikTok user @Lucyisdewy posted a video of herself getting a gold chain as she captioned the post: ‘In love with permanant (sic) pieces now’
The post has garnered over 730,000 likes, as viewers have said they will be getting one themselves as they find it ‘soo cute and dainty’.
Captioning her video, she wrote: ‘In love with permanant (sic) pieces now’.
In order to make sure that the piece is secured on tightly, specialists will use a stylus with a needle at the end.
This uses electricity to melt a small ring or clasp together, so that the silver or gold cannot be opened or taken off.
Showing the process from start to finish, the TikToker showed a thin gold bracelet with the initials L and K and a love heart in the middle.
The specialists then clamps down the ends of the bracelet together, as they dab a tiny bit of metal to solder the parts together.
They then place a small cover on the area that is being zapped – to protect the skin – as they use a tiny flame to melt the pieces together.
Afterwards, they buff down the area that has been attached together to make it nice and smooth.
All in all, experts say that the process is over in seconds. And the entire appointment should take no more than 15 minutes altogether.

The specialist then buffs down the bracelet after soldering it down to make sure it is soft. They then give it another clean to remove any excess bits of dirt
In an interview with Fox News, Sarah Sides, the CEO and founder of Love Weld says that the trend of permanent jewellery has been growing fast.
She added that the items are completely safe and comfortable to wear, as she explained: ‘When creating the permanent jewelry line, [we landed on something that] needs to be durable but comfortable and lightweight.
‘The idea is that it’s just like second skin.’
And Ms Sides believes its popularity is down to the fact that it offers a similar experience to having a tattoo or piercing, but with none of the pain.
She added: ‘It kind of gives you the thrill of a tattoo or piercing without the pain.
‘I see a lot of people who see this as a fun, less scary alternative to a piercing or tattoo, but still the same shared experience.’
And TikTok users are in love with the trend too, as one person commented: ‘Love this bracelet soo cute and dainty.’

And another social media user was keen to get one as soon as possible. They wrote: ‘We need to get matching ones when we’re older.’
And a second urged their friend to get a matching one, writing: ‘Let’s do this.’
A third said they feel these bracelets come with more commitment than an inking, as they said: ‘Why does this feel more permanent than a tattoo to me.’
However, some TikTok users have seen there is a downside to having one permanently put on your body.
In bringing up one of the potential problems, one user said: ‘Airport security?’
And another put: ‘All fun in games until there’s a no jewellery event.’
One person also questioned: ‘What if you have to do X-ray.’
While a third jokingly wrote: ‘What if you hand grows bigger.’
