PETR CECH believes Arsenal missed out on a top four finish because they don’t hate losing enough.
The veteran keeper is set to play the last game of his career in tomorrow’s Europa League final against former club Chelsea.
Cech, 37, won 14 major titles during his time at Chelsea and thought he would continue collecting medals when he moved to the Emirates four years ago.
But he found a totally different mentality at the Emirates and thinks the lack of pressure from within has cost them dearly.
He explains: “At Chelsea, even when we drew at home against a big team, it felt like a funeral in the dressing-room. It was so bad. It felt impossible that we didn’t win.
“But then I came to Arsenal and as much as Arsene Wenger hated losing, he always stayed a gentleman whatever the result. If we won or lost, he just kind of carried on.
“And that was something I’d never experienced before.
“So as strange as it might sound, I think at Arsenal there is not enough pressure.
“Every time Arsenal really needs to win, we generally win.
“In my first season at the club, we go to Athens in the last Champions League group game needing to win 2-0 and we win 3-0.
“The following season, when we needed to win our last six games to have a chance of getting into the top four, we win them all.
“This season we went to Napoli and everyone told us ‘oh you are rubbish away and they are brilliant at home’.
“But we won in Naples and how do you explain that? If you can’t perform under pressure, you lose that game.
“When the fire was right behind us and the pressure was pushing us, we generally got the result.
“But then this season we go to Everton last month knowing we go third if we win and stay fourth if we lose. So we lose.
“Two weeks later against Wolves it was literally the same situation. And we lost again.
“There was always a cushion and the idea that ‘OK, it’s not such a disaster, we still have another chance.’
“And this is where we drop the most points. As soon as we think it’s not such a disaster if we don’t win, we drop points.
“So this is the one thing about Arsenal that I think I would change.
“We need to create more pressure to give everybody something to think about.
“I think the team is on the right track with Unai Emery. He knows what he has in his team and he knows what he wants.
“The problem is that in our last five League games we literally need five points to be in the Champions League and somehow in one week we lost to Palace, Wolves and Leicester.
“Even if we’d got one point from each of those games it would still have been enough.
“But we somehow managed to ship three goals in each of them and obviously we kept everybody else alive in the fight for the top four.”

BAYERN MUNICH have told Jerome Boateng he can leave – putting a number of big clubs on alert for a bargain deal.
The centre-back has been unable to nail down a consistent starting spot under Niko Kovac and annoyed club officials when attempting to force a move to PSG last summer.
Manchester United, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan all reportedly hold an interest in the German.
And Bayern president Uli Hoeness is clear that Boateng's time at Allianz Arena is coming to an end.
Speaking to BR, Hoeness stated: “I would recommend him as a friend to leave the club.
“He needs a new challenge.
“Recently he has seemed out of place.”

ARSENAL fans have urged Shkodran Mustafi to focus on his defending after he posted a video of him scoring a sensational volley in training.
The German has been linked with a summer move away from the Emirates after enduring a nightmare season in North London.
He has struggled to cement his spot in Arsenal's defence, but the latest footage shows that he possesses a striker's instinct.
In the clip, Mustafi found the net with an incredible scissor-kick during a training session with the squad in Baku.
Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno tried his best to save it, but the strike was way too powerful.
Mustafi posted the clip to his Twitter page with the caption: “Watch this @Aubameyang7. Give me the golden shoe blud sm20.”
The Gabon striker, who has 31 goals to his name this season, responded: “All yours blud.”
But Arsenal fans were quick to remind him of his defensive duties ahead of Wednesday's Europa League final against Chelsea.
One replied: “If only you could defend half as good as this shot.”
Another added: “Can you work on your defending instead please.”
While one cheekily asked: “Have you tried defending?”
