If Bryce Harper isn’t exactly thrilling Phillies fans just yet, he’s flat enraging Cubs fans.
A day after showing off his arm with a gun-down at the plate from right field, the Phillies’ $330 million man used his right arm again to bad effect for Cubs fans, trolling those nearby who surely had been doing some chanting throughout the game.
In the sixth inning of Tuesday’s 3-2 Phillies loss in Chicago, Harper caught the last flyball of the frame and turned to the fans as if he was going to toss it into the stands. He then wound up and skied it, far over their heads and onto the Wrigley Field rooftop.
Toward the end of the video clip, a few fans return the message, flipping off Harper as he trots away.
About two months into a 13-year deal, the 26-year-old is having fun but has not yet shown he’s worth the money. He’s slashing .224/.360/.454 with a league-leading 64 strikeouts, which has led to some Philadelphia boos, though he does have nine home runs and 31 RBIs.
