DANIEL CORMIER is backing Israel Adesanya to beat UFC's former two-time light heavyweight world champ Jon Jones.
Jones and current middleweight champion Adesanya have been embroiled in a personal Twitter row.
Jones, 33, instigated the feud when he claimed Adesanya is dodging a fight with him.
This rattled Adesanya who responded by harshly by taking a shot at Jones’ deceased mother.
He also made a crude reference to Jones's criminal past, sharing pictures of his drug and DUI arrests.
Jones's tweets became racially motivated when he said: "McGregor came and made Ireland look like royalty. You came and made African men look soft. Get the f*** out of here."
Now Cormier is asking UFC chief Dana White to get the showdown arranged before backing Adesanya to stun the American.
Chatting to MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, he said: "It’s the time. Right now is the time."
Helwani responded: "You can’t risk having Jon Jones lose his streak to some jabroni. You can’t. You lose it to Izzy, potentially, and now the torch has been passed.”
Cormier then said: “Wait, so you’re picking Izzy?
“You just said…so you’re picking Izzy too? You’re picking Izzy too? Because I’m picking Izzy! You’re picking Izzy too, I’m picking Izzy.”
Jones is widely regarded as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all-time and is ranked No1 in the UFC men's pound-for-pound rankings.
He has lost just once in 28 fights which came by disqualification against Matt Hamill in 2009.
Adesanya, fighting out of Nigeria, has won each of his 20 fights most recently against Paulo Costa last month.
