Drew McIntyre expects Conor McGregor to make WWE debut but says he’ll ‘stick with’ Tyson Fury as a Wrestlemania opponent

DREW MCINTYRE expects Conor McGregor to eventually show up in WWE ‘when the time is right’ – but says he is more likely to fight Tyson Fury.

The Scottish Terminator is currently reeling after losing his WWE Title at Elimination Chamber last month.

The 35-year-old, from Ayr, has been forced to watch on as Bobby Lashley claimed his crown.

However, McIntyre still has his eyes set on several big showdowns as he continues to plot his return to the top of the mountain heading into WrestleMania 37.

He has already taunted UFC mega-star McGregor, who has teased a switch to WWE several times, on social media in the past.

And McIntyre has now told Sky Sports he would welcome the Irishman to WWE although it would not be with open arms.

McIntyre said: “No, I wouldn't want to give him a hug but he wouldn't want to give me a hug considering I keep calling him McTapper on social media.

“He's such a huge star, he knows how to entertain and is an incredible fighter as well. When the time is right, he will show up in WWE and it's going to be exciting.”

Last week heavyweight boxing champion Fury revealed how Covid-19 scuppered his plans of facing McIntyre.

The Gypsy King had already beaten Braun Strowman in WWE before the outbreak of the virus.

And when McIntyre was asked if McGregor could face off against him at next month’s WrestleMania, he said it was more likely to see him go one-on-one with the man who has just signed a bumper £200m two-fight deal to fight Anthony Joshua in the summer.

McGregor said: “I know I give him some crap but chances are we're probably not going to have a match because he's the size of my left calf!

“I will probably stick with Fury, he's a big guy and we're heavyweights, but it would be cool to have McGregor part of it.

“If he's feeling frisky, we'll have ourselves a little scrap, but he is such an entertainer. He gets it and he would fit in lovely in WWE.”
