Gareth Bale will be a 'great' signing for Tottenham, says Rivaldo as Barcelona legend offers help to former club

GARETH BALE will be a 'great' signing for Tottenham, according to Barcelona legend Rivaldo.

The Brazilian icon, 48, believes a move back to Spurs from Real Madrid will benefit both Bale and his old manager Jose Mourinho.

Bale is thought to have said his goodbyes at Real Madrid's training ground on Thursday before he jets into London on Friday to seal a sensational return to the club he left for a then world-record £85million in 2013.

He is set to move on loan for the season with Tottenham picking up the bill for around 40 to 50 per cent of his £650,000 wages.

Rivaldo told Betfair: "It will be great news if Gareth Bale signs for Tottenham.

"He has not been playing regularly for a long time and it will be great for him to get the chance at his former club which he knows well and where he played some of his best football ever.

"Jose Mourinho's team did not start well in the Premier League, losing to Everton, and he will love having one of his former stars in the squad to add some attacking power."

Carlo Ancelotti's Everton side impressed in their 1-0 win over Spurs on the opening weekend of the new Premier League campaign.

And Rivaldo, capped 74 times by Brazil, was impressed by new signing and fellow countryman Allan, who arrived from Napoli for £25m.

He added: "My compatriot Allan immediately proved his value with a good performance in Everton's win at Spurs, so I must congratulate him for that.

"I think he has qualities to perform well for Everton and at the same time keep staking his claim for a place in the Brazilian team for Copa America.

"Carlo Ancelotti already had a strong squad, but with the recent signings of Allan and James Rodriguez they have a good chance of producing a great campaign this season and fighting for European places.

"With Allan and James combining well in the midfield, and Richarlison storming at the attack, I'm predicting a good season for Everton."

Rivaldo also offered to help out his old side Barcelona ahead of the club's presidential elections next year.

He said: "Barcelona are having elections in March 2021 and there are already some rumours about potential candidates for president and future projects for the club.

"So far, I've not been contacted by anyone but I'm always available to talk and, who knows, maybe collaborate on a future project.

"As a great Barcelona fan, I'm always available to help according to my skills, so, only after a conversation with a potential candidate I could see if I may be helpful."
