“I am the youngest of 10 siblings from a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo in Ecuador.
“My dream always to be the most decorated player in the history of Ecuador. I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful.
“The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity.”
Meanwhile, Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries’ agent flew in for talks with Premier League clubs, including United.
The Red Devils, Chelsea and Newcastle are thought to be keen on Dumfries.

The Netherlands international has lost his place in Inter’s starting line-up to Matteo Darmian

This could lead to a swoop for the winger, according to Calcio Mercato.
Finally, Jadon Sancho is on his way back into the United first team and could be involved in the FA Cup this weekend, writes SunSport's Neil Custis.
Sancho has been sidelined since October with manager Erik ten Hag believing he was not physically or mentally fit enough to play for the Red Devils.
The 22-year-old has only recently returned to full training since his last appearance away to Chelsea 14 weeks ago.
But ahead of Saturday’s evening kick off against Reading, Ten Hag said there is now light at the end of the tunnel for the England international.

Paul Ince hope
Reading boss Paul Ince is hoping "unplayable" Marcus Rashford doesn't play for Manchester United in their FA Cup clash this weekend.
Ince said: "Hopefully he's not going to play! I was a bit disappointed they won 3-0 the other night because he might play against us now because it looks like that tie is more or less over.
"Like any player, it's all about confidence and the right manager coming in and noticing how to build confidence. It is never easy because we saw in the past two years he had lost some of it.
"To see him doing what he does best is great for Manchester United and their fans. He is unplayable at the moment, unstoppable.
"The goal he scored against Forest showed what type of form he is in. We can't be thinking about stopping Rashford though.
"They have so many top players – Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Wout Weghorst who got his first goal against Forest. It's not about us stopping players, it's about us going there and putting in a performance"

Not Keane on them
Manchester United legend Roy Keane revealed he never warmed to Wayne Rooney or Rio Ferdinand in the dressing room.
Keane told Sky Sports’ The Football Show said: “We certainly didn’t have an argument, let me tell you. I like my rugby league and yeah, someone did change the channel and I wasn’t happy.
“But we didn’t have an argument about it. I came down for breakfast the next day and Wayne said, ‘Did you find the control?’
"So I told him where to go. If that’s an argument, God help us. I certainly didn’t respect Wayne because he stood up to me and wanted to watch the X Factor.
“I had a lot of respect for Wayne because I thought he was a brilliant player. I wouldn’t say I warmed to the guy, I certainly didn’t dislike him.
"But the lad’s on a different wavelength, different banter and if hiding the control was his type of banter then… not for me”

Ronaldo suffers injury
Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo's tough start to life with Al-Nassr has gotten even worse after he appeared to pick up an injury.
Ronaldo's new club was defeated 3-1 by Al-Ittihad in the semi-final of the Saudi Super Cup with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner failing to register a goal or assist in his second match.
The star forward appeared to hobble off the pitch after the game, indicating his ankle had taken a knock following a challenge from second-half substitute Hamdan Al-Shamrani.

They want to make the England international the top earner at the club with a new deal worth a mammoth £13million-a-year – that works out at £250,000-a-week.

Harry Kane dilemma
Tottenham may be more willing to sell Harry Kane to Bayern Munich rather than Manchester United.
It’s been reported Spurs might reduce their demands for a foreign club – and that in any case United might baulk at a seven-figure sum.
BILD TV journalist Valentina Maceri told Sky Sports that the North Londoners would prefer it if Kane did not join a Premier League rival like the Red Devils, Manchester City or Chelsea.
It’s thought that’s a main reason why there’s more talk right now of Bayern moving again for the star striker at the end of the season.
That is after the German champions were quoted a sum of £140million last summer

Seal of approval
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes named three of the toughest opponents he came up against during his glittering career.
Scholes told Savage Social: "When I played central midfield I like to go into games thinking, 'I just want to have all the time in the world here, just nobody around me, just find a little bit of space and pass the ball around'.
"Then you play against people like you [Robbie Savage]. An absolute nuisance, trying to close you down dead quick. I don't want that, I just want it nice and relaxed.
"The way I played I didn't really have to beat people or be stronger, quicker than the other person. I suppose Patrick Vieira, you play against him he is so long, he is so big.
"You think you've got the ball, and the next minute he nicks it over your head. He was a clever player as well. There's one more that people won't think of. We used to play against Portsmouth.
"Do you remember Papa Bouba Diop? Big, massive. They used to call him The Wardrobe! You get involved physically with him and you're wasting your time. I always found him awkward to play against. He wasn't a Vieira, of course he wasn't, but he still had talent"

Not really Keane
Manchester United legend Roy Keane has admitted his "embarrassing" fitness levels are the reason why he has turned down legends matches.
Keane told Off The Ball: "I'm not fit. I'm far from fit. My fitness levels are actually very, very embarrassing. Just because I've not put on loads of weight doesn't mean to say I'm fit. I wouldn't really be able to do any running.
"Put it this way, I've been invited a number of times over the last few years to play legends games or whatever you want to call it. I'd find it really difficult because I wouldn't be able to get around. Too many injury problems.
"I try to have a decent diet and I'm obviously weary about putting on too much weight. But I certainly wouldn't be fit enough to go on any sort of run. I do a small bit of cycling but even that – I'm not exactly Sean Kelly"

Harry Kane contract talks
Tottenham superstar Harry Kane is tipped to hold February talks with the club over his future amid interest from Manchester United.
And it’s claimed a summer move – possibly to United – is now a serious possibility.
Transfer expert Dean Jones told Givemesport he believes whatever happens to the England skipper is linked to whether Spurs boss Antonio Conte stays.
Jones added: “Kane is expecting to speak to Tottenham, initially, in February, about what the plans are, what kind of offer would be on the table and what he could expect.
“And then he’ll go away and think about that. So over the course of the next three, four months, you’re not only deciding who the manager is, but also what’s going to be happening with your star player”

Ten Hag rules out Pellistri loan exit
Erik ten Hag has revealed that youngster Facundo Pellistri won't be loaned out this month.
The 21-year-old has made just two appearances this season, both coming in the Carabao Cup.

"Second, we have many games to cover and we need players to cover that.
"When you play 30 games in 10 days you need a lot of players.

Weghorst wants permanent deal
Wout Weghorst opened his Manchester United goalscoring account and then vowed to prove he can be more than just a stop-gap striker.
The Dutchman scored the second in the Red Devils' rousing 3-0 Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg victory at the City Ground on Wednesday night.
Now the on-loan 6ft 6 frontman is aiming to add plenty more to become a permanent fixture in Erik ten Hag's plans.
Weghorst, 30, said: "This is the situation now, it was for a loan. To deliver and help the team.
"It’s a massive club so I will try to do everything as good as I can and if it will work out it will be a good option.
"I’ve seen how big the club is, in everything, facilities, even the quality in the team, the way were playing, there’s a lot of quality in everything and that’s something you look to work in, in a winning atmosphere.
"I think the first week went well and it’s up to me to deliver and contribute and to help the team as good as I can. I’m quite confident I can play a role in it."
