Romelu Lukaku set for Chelsea recall after apologising to Thomas Tuchel in peace talks following explosive interview

ROMELU LUKAKU is set to be recalled to the Chelsea squad following peace talks with Thomas Tuchel.

The pair had a positive meeting yesterday to discuss the fallout from the striker’s controversial TV interview in which Lukaku said he was unhappy and wanted to leave.

Lukaku was axed from the squad for Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool as punishment and then faced his head coach at Chelsea’s Surrey training ground.

And Tuchel is considering bringing his big-money star back in from the cold as a further de-escalation of tension in the camp. It is believed Lukaku expressed regret for his actions and his outburst.

Chelsea host Tottenham tomorrow in a Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.

Lukaku trained yesterday with the group of players who did not feature in Sunday’s game but he should join in with the main session today as Tuchel draws up his final tactical plans.

Chelsea paid £97.5m for Belgian Lukaku last summer only for their club-record signing to claim he did not really want to leave Inter Milan in the first place.

He went on to praise the Italian club’s fans and said he was unhappy with the way he was being played at Chelsea under Tuchel.

That prompted Tuchel to drop him against Liverpool — one of Chelsea’s main rivals.

It has also caused a huge backlash among Blues supporters.

Tuchel had the support of club owner Roman Abramovich and Lukaku is now under pressure to redeem himself in front of the Chelsea fans by adding to his tally of seven goals this season.

Chelsea have refused to comment on any aspect of the meeting between Tuchel and Lukaku.

Tuchel insisted he was always willing to listen to his player’s explanation, admitting: “There is always a way back.”
