THIS is the shocking moment a women's team brutally attacked a referee after tensions boiled over following a missed penalty call.

DR Congo side DC Motema Pembe were on the receiving end of a heavy beating by TP Mazembe when the incident happened.

Things got out of hand when the referee failed to award Motema Pembe a penalty while losing 5-1.

Players aggressively chased after the male referee, who desperately ran across the pitch to find safety.

Members of the football team managed to get hold of him and seemingly started beating the official with a combination of kicks and punches.
