- Footy legend has outraged fans
- Shows support for Andrew Tate
- Received intense backlash online
Sonny Bill Williams has received intense blowback from fans for sharing yet another message from woman-hating social media influencer Andrew Tate, who is currently in jail awaiting trial on alleged sex trafficking offences.
Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested in December on suspicion of rape and human trafficking in Romania, and remain in custody after two women were allegedly held against their will and coerced into creating paid pornography.
They have been detained in jail for three months, but as yet have not yet been charged.
Williams, a former champion NRL and All Blacks footballer and heavyweight boxer, copped major backlash online on March 7 when he first retweeted a message from Tate.
He wrote ‘Ameen’ in response to a comment Tate shared on his social media saying: ‘Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear’.

Ameen is the Islamic version of Christianity’s ‘amen’.
The retired footy legend has now doubled down and done it again by sharing another of Tate’s posts.
The former professional kickboxer took to Twitter on Wednesday from his jail cell in Romania to post: ‘If Allah intends good for someone, then He afflicts him with trials.’
Williams, who has nearly a million followers on the platform, shared the post with a ‘100’ emoji.
Once again, he was slammed by his followers, who are shocked that the Kiwi sporting icon is showing support for Tate.
‘Please say it ain’t so. You’ve always been such a good example of non-misogynistic masculinity. Think about how this looks to all the boys and young men that look up to you,’ wrote one outraged Twitter user.
‘Just how many concussions HAVE you had?’ commented another.
‘Andrew Tate has a long, verified history of trafficking, violent abuse of women, and of misogynistic views. He isn’t someone I’d be retreating or aligning myself with. He is misabusing Allah for his own interests and means, not bc he is committed to the faith,’ wrote a third.
Williams was hit with a series of angry responses after sharing Tate’s posts for a second time
‘Poor tweet SBW – if you don’t know who he is then it’s not so bad. If you do know him, it’s a tweet that will lose you a lot of respect,’ commented another.
‘My fellow brother in Islam, please don’t rt this guy until he truly repents from his transgressions,’ said another follower.
Williams’ recent Tweet is the third time he’s publicly supported Tate online.
On March 3 he shared a video posted by a Tate supporter, accompanied by a love heart and ‘praise’ emoji, in which called for the brothers to be released from jail with the hashtag ‘#FreeTheTates’.
Williams’ long-time manager Khoder Nasser told New Zealand news outlet Stuff that he wasn’t aware of allegations against Tate or of Williams’ recent tweet.
‘I will have a look. I know Sonny does not support certain things,’ he said.
‘Let me get on to it and let me see what’s going on.’
