Thursday's Goodwood tips: The key Nassau Stakes contenders, how the race will pan out and betting advice

ANOTHER top notch contest takes place on the hallowed Goodwood turf on Thursday as an elite field of nine fillies and mares tackle the Nassau Stakes.

Dual Guineas heroine Hermosa is the hot favourite for record-breaking trainer Aidan O'Brien – but is she a good bet?

Key Nassau Stakes contenders

Hermosa 7-4f

Impressive winner of both the English and Irish 1000 Guineas on her first two starts this year.

Considered the banker of the meeting by many when a hot favourite for the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, but she was one-paced in the straight and had to settle for second.

Has a point to prove after that, but she is bred to relish this step up to 1m2f.

Mehdaayih 7-2

Blew away her rivals when winning the Cheshire Oaks by a wide-margin at Chester in May.

Met trouble when midfield in the Oaks on her next start and she got back on the scoreboard in a French Group 2 last time.

This is a much deeper race but she looks a key contender for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori.

Channel 11-2

Progressive filly who continued her winning run when landing the French Oaks on her latest outing.

They finished in a bit of a heap there, so there is a slight doubt about the strength of that form.

However, French filly Watch Me was written off before winning at Royal Ascot, so she shouldn't be underestimated.

Maqsad 6-1

Hugely impressive winner of the Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket back in May.

Sent off just 4-1 for the Oaks on the back of that but she didn't get home over 1m4f.

Arrives here fresh and remains an exciting prospect for the remainder of the season for her top yard.

Rest of the field

Rawdaa 6-1

Sun Maiden 14-1

Just Wonderful 16-1

Deirdre 20-1

Nyaleti 33-1

How will the race pan out?

Hermosa likes to race up with/force the pace, but on her first try over 1m2f she could be ridden more conservatively.

That could see Nyaleti act as the bunny for the others, with the Ballydoyle pair of Hermosa and Just Wonderful likely to stalk just in behind, along with French raider Channel.

Mehdaayih and Maqsad have both shown electric acceleration in previous victories, so they will likely be held up and produced late.

It's not a big field and they mightn't go a break neck gallop, so it could come down to who has the best turn of foot.

Betting advice for the big one

This could be a tactical affair, and in my opinion the two quickest horses in the race at Mehdaayih and MAQSAD.

The former won in France on her latest outing, but at double the price the fresh Maqsad is taken to get a Group 1 win under her belt.

She didn't stay in the Oaks and will be much more effective over this trip. Her yard hold her in very high regard.

Take advantage of Unibet's £10-£40 offer as Maqsad's price is expected to collapse.
