Tottenham next manager: Antonio Conte odds slashed after ex-Chelsea chief's shock Inter Milan exit

ANTONIO CONTE is the leading contender to be appointed Tottenham's next permanent manager.

That's according to bookmakers Betfair, who've made Conte 6/4 favourite to take charge following his shock Inter Milan exit on Wednesday.

Conte has parted ways with the Italian giants just three weeks after their Serie A title win due to a reported bust-up with owners Suning.

The Chinese group were hit badly by the coronavirus pandemic, leaving them short on cash.

And it's reckoned Inter may have to sell top stars including Romelu Lukaku to balance the books.

Conte has now parted ways with the club after a two year spell.

But he could now be destined to return to the Premier League with Spurs, having led fierce rivals Chelsea to the title and FA Cup.

Former boss Mauricio Pochettino is also one of the favourites for the job.

He is 5/1 to return after only taking charge at Paris Saint-Germain midway through this season.

But Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is the second favourite to take over at Spurs.

Belgium gaffer Roberto Martinez and Brighton chief Graham Potter are also in the running, according to Betfair.

Leicester's Brendan Rodgers is another on the list after missing out on Champions League football.

However, asked if he could reassure Leicester fans about his future by talkSPORT’s Sam Matterface, Rodgers said: "Yeah, 200 per cent. I absolutely love it here.

"Tottenham is a club that’s one of the biggest clubs in Europe, it’s a fantastic club, the stadium’s amazing, they’ve got great players and obviously they’ll be looking for a manager in the summer.

"But for me, I absolutely love it here. We’re in the middle of a project that we’re two-and-a-half years in.

"All I’m interested in now is going away, reflecting on the game, having a break, recover – it’s been an intense couple of seasons.

“And then ready, get a plan in place again for next season, come back ready to fight again and challenge the elite."

Meanwhile, Potter has distanced himself from the speculation by announcing that he is fully committed to his current club.

He said: "I don’t pay too much attention to things that are outside of my control, things that get written, or speculation.

"It [the Tottenham job] is nothing I have considered. I have got a contract here. I am committed to this, we’ve got a lot to do, we’re just at the start of what we’re doing.”
