All Creatures Great and Small’s Helen Alderson (played by Rachel Shenton) and James Herriot (Nicholas Ralph) have become a huge part of the wholesome Yorkshire-based drama. The pair were recently invited onto a podcast called Talkshire to discuss filming the second series of the uplifting programme. During the interview, Oscar-winning actress Rachel revealed the element she misses most about the Yorkshire Dales.

Talkshire, which celebrates all things Yorkshire with celebrity guests, invited Rachel and Nicholas for a conversation about All Creatures Great and Small.

During the interview, 33-year-old Rachel and 31-year-old Nicholas talked about filming season two, which was made up of six episodes.

Reflecting on the series, Rachel opened up on the element she misses the most about Yorkshire.

The actress explained: “Right now I’m missing a coffee shop that I discovered in Harrogate called Grön that became a personal favourite.

“We went a couple of times and that was gorgeous.”

She added: “And Heston Grange which was Helen’s farm was filmed in a place which kind of has its own weather system like nowhere else in Yorkshire.

“There can be glorious sunshine 20 or 30 yards one way or another and in this place, it can be raining or whatever.

“The weather really does what it wants but I really like it there, I like that you’re a bit off-grid as you don’t get signal all day.

“So I am kind of missing being there.”

Nicholas said he has been longing for the wide-open fields of the Yorkshire Dales since filming wrapped.

He explained: “When we are up there the joy of the job is that we spend four or five months up in the Yorkshire Dales and it’s beautiful

“I come from a small town in northern Scotland and it’s a lovely respite and a lovely place to spend four or five months of the year up in these stunning locations.”

He added: “It’s beautiful and we have got to get to know some of the locals too, they come out and say, ‘Hi’ and things.”

The All Creatures Great and Small Christmas special will be the last time fans see their favourite characters for a while.

The festive special will welcome back all of the Skeldale House family, including Tristan (Callum Woodhouse) and Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West).

After James proposed to Helen, the couple have a difficult time planning where they will spend their first Christmas together.

But the Yorkshire vet ends up facing bigger problems when a beloved pet, Tricki Woo, falls ill.

Everyone at Skeldale jumps in to try and make Mrs Pumphrey’s (Patricia Hodge) dog better in time for Christmas Day.

The series is yet to be renewed for a third season, but it is likely to happen in the near future.

But with the Second World War looming, the characters are set to face difficult times ahead.

All Creatures Great and Small is available to watch on My5 and AcornTV.
