Captain Lee won’t be returning to My Seanna until a little later in the upcoming ninth season of the popular reality series Below Deck. Ahead of the show’s anticipated return to Bravo, Eddie Lucas and EP Courtland Cox how their dynamic will evolve over the course of the next charter.

Eddie Lucas provided Below Deck’s Lee Rosbach some much needed support following the death of the Captain’s son, Joshua in 2019.

Producer for the series Courtland Cox recently revealed more about their evolving friendship to Vanity Fair during a recent interview previewing the upcoming charter.

Rosbach won’t be present for the first portion of the voyage, but Cox explained how the first officer’s relationship with the captain was heightened upon his return.

“On the heels of this incredibly awful tragedy that Lee and [his wife] Mary Anne suffered,” she began.

“To be able to have someone familiar like Eddie come back, when he has been like a son to Lee, it got magnified into this kind of amazing but awful coincidence.

“While you’re seeing what Lee went through and seeing what Eddie meant to him, it really puts it in perspective—how you’re making a TV show with real human stakes.”

Eddie may have started the series as a lowly deckhand but was clearly destined for great things as he was soon promoted to ship’s bosun.

Below Deck’s eighth season then ended with an emotional moment between the pair as Captain Lee promoted Eddie to first officer.

Their friendship has clearly gone from strength to strength over the course of the series, and was especially poignant during the last charter.

Season eight, again aboard My Seanna, was Captain Lee’s first voyage following the passing of his son at the age of 42.

Rosbach confirmed the news in an Instagram post in which he detailed Joshua’s battles with addiction.

He wrote: “We loved Josh unconditionally and were proud of the man he had become in spite of his problems.”

“There was no one I ever knew who gave more of himself to those in his life. He loved with all his being without expecting anything in return.”

Bosun Eddie Lucas was a comforting presence for Rosbach throughout the latest season.

However, the new first officer will face an unprecedented challenge as the superyacht will embark without Captain Lee at the helm for the first time in Below Deck’s nine-year history.

Temporary replacement Captain Sean Meagher will be taking over, but Rosbach’s unexpected delay on land will hoist plenty of new responsibilities on Eddie.

“It’s a different dynamic between me and the Captain,” Eddie told Vanity Fair.

“I can kind of challenge his way of thinking and better understand his leadership style.

“No matter how long I work with the Captain, I keep on learning new things.”

Hopefully Eddie can help Captain Sean make sure My Seanna stays on course before his boss makes his grand entrance later in the season.

Below Deck season 9 premieres Tuesday, October 26 on Bravo.
