Channel 4 Gogglebox fans in tears at brilliant tribute to star

Gogglebox fans were overwhelmed by the introduction to Friday night’s programme which paid tribute to one of its most-loved stars.

The iconic Channel 4 show announced Dave the Dog, the Malone family’s Rottweiler had died. The pet was at the centre of many brilliant scenes on the programme and producers did not disappoint with their choice of favourite clip.

The opening scene saw a repeated clip shown of Dave causing chaos in the household, jumping on dad Tom Senior’s crotch, causing him to yell in pain.

The dog then knocked over a drink, drenching the family’s TV remote control.

C4 Gogglebox team also posted the clip on X, writing above: “Utter chaos and we’ll miss it #RIPDave ❤️ @TheMalonesGB #Gogglebox”

Heartbroken fans rushed to respond with @Debcoolnan writing:

“Loved every laugh u gave us Dave. shall miss you so so much xxxx”

@Lauren014816962 added: “Seeing Dave at the start of the show was very much needed and he of course got a laugh! RIP you sweet boy!”

@JonathanAsiama2 said: “Oh, no. Dave made me laugh whenever I watch Gogglebox. He was quite the highlight. RIP, Dave.”

@nevercantellpod added: “So many happy memories on and off the show to treasure xxxx”

Earlier this week the Malone family posted a statement on social media site X, announcing the sad news. They said: “There are no words to describe the pain we are feeling or how much we loved you Dave xx RIP XX

“You helped everyone see the true lovable nature of Rotties.

“We were blessed to have you for 12 and a half years xx”

Trying to hold back tears, mum Vanessa Malone also posted a video after the announcement.

She said: “He gave us love and we loved him until the end. He wasn’t in any pain, it was nice and peaceful. Big thank you for your comforting words, we enjoyed them very much.”
