Channel 5 in shock last-minute schedule shake-up as iconic film dumped from the air | The Sun

CHANNEL 5 has left fans baffled after ditching a classic film from its weekend listings in a surprise shake-up.

Dirty Dancing had been due to air on Sunday afternoon but the much-loved 80s classic starring Patrick Swayze is no longer listed in the TV guide.

The cult classic, in which Swayze's dance instructor character Johnny strikes up a frowned upon romance with Jennifer Grey's Baby at a US holiday camp, is never far from a TV screen due to its popularity 36 years on from its release.

One disappointed telly viewer commented on an X post by TV Zone about the schedule change: "I'm openly weeping."

Another asked: "Any idea why?"

A third couldn't resist joking: "But…. Nobody puts Baby in the corner."

The Channel's Sunday classic movie line-up is now You've Got Mail followed by The First Wives Club and Sandra Bullock's Miss Congeniality 2.

Earlier this year actress Jennifer Grey confirmed a Dirty Dancing sequel is definitely happening and said she would only be involved if it honoured Swayze appropriately following his death in 2009.

She told Good Morning America: "We're not giving up any dates at the moment because… really, what I'm doing, my whole job with this, is to get it right, get it really right, in Patrick's honor, in honor of all of the fans' relationship with the movie. If you're going to do that movie again, it has to be right.

"It's definitely happening. I'm very excited to say that. It's something I refuse to do unless it's perfect, so I'm doing my very best to make sure we honor it."
