EastEnders star opens up about real family co-stars in heartbreaking goodbye
EastEnders actress Danielle Harold has called her co-stars a "real family unit," as the cast prepare to say goodbye to her character Lola Pearce in heartbreaking scenes.
Lola was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year and after finding out her condition was terminal, she recently found out that she had weeks left to live.
Denise and Kim Fox, along with Lola's husband Jay Brown, hold a gathering for her to lift her spirits – with the Walford residents saying their goodbyes as Lola approaches the final days of her life.

Danielle admitted that filming the scenes was "difficult," and praised the charities who have worked with EastEnders bosses on the storyline to portray Lola's diagnosis "as accurately and sensitively as possible."
“Denise and Kim come to see Lola as she’s of course really poorly now, so they come round to try and make her feel a bit better, talk to her and make her feel pampered. They just sit around her bedside to be with her and to say their goodbyes," said Danielle.
She continued: "It’s been really difficult filming these last few scenes over because it does get really tough, especially towards the end.
"It’s such an a heartbreaking diagnosis and it’s not nice to watch or to play, so working with the charities has been so important for us because we want to portray Lola’s diagnosis both accurately and sensitively while also raising awareness to hopefully make a change."
Upcoming scenes will see Lola spending time with Jay, Billy Mitchell and daughter Lexi Pearce, with Danielle comparing them to a real life family.
"We’re all just so close, we’re like a real family unit – both on and off screen!
"It’s been so special doing this with them and I really couldn’t have done this with anyone else because we just all work in such a great way together and taking on this story was such a team effort from all of us."
The actress, who has played Lola since 2011, also thanked viewers for their support as her character's storyline has aired.
"The response from everybody has been really overwhelming but really lovely as they’re really supportive of Lola.
"It’s been so lovely to see that."
