Emmerdale star praises EastEnders boyfriend over BAFTA nomination

Emmerdale’s Amy Walsh has praised boyfriend and EastEnders star Toby-Alexander Smith after he received a BAFTA TV nomination.

Toby portrays abuser Gray Atkins in EastEnders, and the scene in which the character murdered his wife Chantelle (Jessica Plummer) is nominated for Must See TV Moment of The Year.

Amy – who plays Tracy Metcalfe in Emmerdale – was full of praise for her fellow soap star, sharing word of the nomination on social media.

‘Could not be more proud,’ the actress wrote of her boyfriend’s achievement on Instagram Stories.

‘He’s really lovely in real life so makes it even more deserving’.

Toby and Amy reportedly struck up a romance last year, making their first public appearance together at a performance of A Christmas Carol in London.

‘It’s early days but they really like each other,’ a source told The Sun at the time.

‘They’re both very busy with packed work schedules at opposite ends of the country, but they try to spend as much time together as they can.’

Toby has portrayed Gray since 2019.

In the wake of murdering Chantelle, Gray has become hellbent on keeping what he did a secret, and more recently, he killed Tina Carter (Luisa Bradshaw-White) and Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami).

Gray confronted Kush at a platform in the Tube station, and pushed him in front of the oncoming train in violent scenes.

Subsequently, he’s set his sights on Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty).
