Fans ‘confirm identity’ of The Masked Singer’s Badger to be nineties legend

The Masked Singer viewers are adamant that Badger is perhaps the lead singer of one of the world's biggest indie-rock bands.

Since the first episode of season two premiered on ITV on Saturday, speculation has been rife as to who is hiding behind the enormous mask.

Now, fans have come to the conclusion that they have unmasked the star who is perhaps most known for his virtual alter-ego.

It's said that Badger is legendary rocker, Damon Albarn, of Blur and Gorillaz fame.

During his time in Gorillaz, Damon was never seen with the band posing "virtually" behind an array of characters, including 2-D and Murdoc Niccals.

However, the huge clues left the identity of Badger up for interpretation as a trailer for Badger appeared before his performance.

The anonymous star said: "A badger is a pretty unmistakable animal.

"Yet life behind the mask means my identity is going to be completely hidden, but that's nothing new to me."

They went on to add: "In my career, I've been totally used to being anonymous."

  • The Masked Singer fans let down as they guess 'obvious' first celebrity's identity

Shortly after Badger performed a rendition of Nina Simone's Feeling Good, fans flocked to Twitter to share their theories as to who is behind the lavish costume.

"For Badger to be Damon Albarn on #MaskedSingerUK it would make sense if you know it sounded like him?" tweeted one fan.

While a second went on to say: "#MaskedSingerUK Virtual world could be a link to Gorillaz, but surely people would recognise Damon Albarn in the street."

"Just putting this out there that maybe Damon Albarn could be Badger? He said he 'sees things through a virtual world' and the @gorillaz are a virtual band #MaskedSingerUK," commented a third.

Another penned: "Ok. Hear me out. #MaskedSingerUK Badger = Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz fame?"

Britain's Got Talent star Jamie Lambert added fuel to the fire with: "Badger is Damon Albarn from the Gorillaz #MaskedSingerUK."

Sadly, fans will have to wait a little longer to find out the true identity of Badger after the judging panel voted to send him through to the next round.

Badger was placed in the bottom three alongside Alien and Swan.

However, it was Alien who was unmasked and revealed to be noughties mega star, Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Episode two will feature the remaining characters who will grace the stage for the first time.

Those performing are Bush Baby, Grandfather Clock, Viking, Seahorse, Harlequin and Blob.
