Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) finds herself in all kinds of trouble in upcoming Coronation Street episodes when she confuses kindness for something else – twice – and causes huge embarrassment after she offers to sleep with Roy Cropper (David Neilson).
Yes, you read that right.
The troubled young woman has recently returned to Weatherfield after moving to Cornwall with her mum. This was an attempt to get her away from the bad influence of her father, far right activist Reece (Scott Anson). He’s currently serving prison time for his part in the evil plots that led to Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) being stabbed.
Lauren’s father was part of the gang that also got her boyfriend Max Turner (Paddy Bever) involved in their racist activities and on her return to Weatherfield it became clear that she still had feelings for Max.
He’d moved on since his release from a STC where he was sent for his part in the gang’s activities and had a new girlfriend, Sabrina (Luana Santos). But she wasn’t happy when he reconnected with Lauren because of Lauren’s previous racist views and told Max they couldn’t have a relationship if Lauren was in his life. Unwilling to turn his back on Lauren, Max’s relationship with Sabrina ended.
In upcoming episodes, Lauren has a good day at Roy’s Rolls where she’s recently started working. She calmly sorts out a situation where Beth (Lisa George) wrongly accuses her of short-changing her and Shona (Julia Goulding) is pleased with the way she’s handled things.
A buoyant Lauren tells Max about her day. He’s pleased for her, but Lauren misinterprets his friendly support and leans in for a kiss. Max pulls away, and Lauren is massively embarrassed and storms out.
She heads back to the cafe and tells Roy she’s made a huge fool of herself and wants to resign. Roy is his usual kindly self and offers her food and a bed for the night to give her time to think about what she really wants to do.
What Lauren does next is really a sign of her vulnerability, as she offers to sleep with Roy as a mark of her gratitude. Of course some men might have accepted that offer, but not our Roy. Realising she’s made another terrible mistake, it’s not long before Lauren vanishes.
A concerned Roy contacts Shona and he’s worried to hear that neither she nor Max has seen Lauren since the previous day.
When she does reappear it’s only to number 8 to pack her things, where she shocks Shona and Max by letting slip that she made a pass at Roy because she thought it was what men expect.
Where will she go now?
