Law & Order: Organized Crime might be a spinoff, but so far, it’s proven to be just as good as Law & Order: SVU, if not better. As the NBC drama winds down its freshman season, many fans hope they’ll get to see more of Elliot Stabler next year. Here’s what we know about Law & Order: Organized Crime season 2.
Season 2 of ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ is coming to NBC
Law & Order: Organized Crime premiered on April 1 as part of a two-hour crossover event with Law & Order: SVU. The short, seven-episode first season concludes Thursday, May 27.
But there’s some good news for Elliot Stabler fans. According to Deadline, a week before airing the penultimate episode of season 1, NBC announced its plans to renew the Christopher Meloni drama for another season.
What’s the ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ season 2 release date?
Like dozens of other popular shows on TV, both Law & Order: Organized Crime and Law & Order: SVU saw delayed premiere dates due to the pandemic. But now, with established safety protocols in place, it’s safe to assume the show’s production schedule will return to normal.
NBC has yet to announce an official premiere date for either series. But if the cast and crew follow SVU’s production schedule, fans may see season 2 of Law & Order: Organized Crime drop in the fall of 2021.
Who’s in the ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ cast for season 2?
There is no Law & Order: Organized Crime without Elliot Stabler, which means Christopher Meloni will return for season 2. Other cast regulars, including Danielle Moné Truitt, Ainsley Seiger, and Nicky Torchia, are also expected to return.
And considering how close the show connects to the events and characters of Law & Order: SVU, there is a good chance Mariska Hargitay, Ice T, and Peter Scanavino will reappear as guest stars in season 2.
How many episodes is ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ season 2?
The debut season of Law & Order: Organized Crime was a mere seven episodes, not quite enough for fans of the compelling NBC drama. But luckily, season 2 will be much longer, with a total of 24 episodes.
Dick Wolf says season 2 will crossover with ‘Law & Order: SVU’ again
Weeks before the Law & Order: Organized Crime renewal, creator Dick Wolf, teased a thrilling breakdown of season 2. As reported by TV Line, he suggested the show will introduce new criminal foes into Stabler’s world.
“The first third of the season is The Godfather,” Wolf revealed. “The second third is American Gangster. And the last third is Scarface. And these villains are going to be really bad guys that give [Stabler] a constant source of energy, outrage, belief in justice, and a different way of pursuing criminals than we’ve had before.”
Wolf also noted that season 2 will continue to crossover with Law & Order: SVU and reunite Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler whenever the story warrants it.
“We’re going to do it whenever it gives both shows a different way to shine,” he added. “And, obviously, there is a portion of the audience that says, ‘Geez, this is frustrating. Why don’t you just put them both on the same show again?’ It’s not exciting. This, to me, is much more engaging.”
