Love Island new boy Danny Bibby will be staying in the villa after apologising from inside the Majorca pad for his past comment, which included the N-word.

Viewers trawled through the 25-year-old plumber and clothing brand owner's social media to see him carelessly using the N-word on his Instagram profile.

Many called for him to be axed from the romance show after discovering the racial slur used in an Instagram comment in 2019.

However ITV has now released a statement after speaking to Danny from inside the villa.

He said: "I'd like to take the time to apologise to anyone that may have taken offence to my inappropriate remark. I never meant anything malicious by this comment at all.

"I am not a racist person and it's unacceptable language and ignorant. I meant no offence and feel like I have really learnt from my mistakes and will never use that word again.

I am a kind loving person and hopefully you get to see that in the show."

Wigan-based Danny had barely even dipped his toe in the Love Island pool before the news broke, with him only featuring for several seconds at the end of Thursday night's episode.

His father defended Danny earlier on Friday, saying in a statement: "Danny does not have a racist bone in his body and there were no racist intentions to this post.

"Although it was not done maliciously, it was a mistake. I absolutely apologise on his behalf for the offence this wording may have caused. That would never have been his intention."

The offending comment came underneath an image of him wearing a leaf-print shirt while on holiday.

A friend commented: "Champ," alongside a fist-bump emoji, while Danny responded: "My n****."

Fans had been convinced that Danny had been removed from the show, after they realised the daily First Look teaser video was late.

Before it was released just a few hours before the episode, one fan tweeted: "First look not out yet? Hopefully they kick Danny out of the villa and bring another boy in."

Another said: "No first look. Maybe they kicked Danny off already."

And a third added: "No Love Island today? Are the producers busy removing Danny?"

However it has been confirmed that Friday night's episode will see Danny going on some dates before choosing a girl to couple up with in a shock re-coupling.

Love Island airs nightly at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVHub
