Married at First Sight Australia season eight is almost over on E4. The reality series has been one of the most controversial yet, with ongoing gas-lighting claims regarding Bryce Ruthven’s actions towards his wife Melissa Rawson. Nevertheless, fans have loved watching the couples progress with the help of their experts.
Mel Schilling is one of the three experts on both MAFS UK and MAFS Australia.
In the show Down Under, the romance coach works closely alongside relationship specialist John Aiken and clinical sexologist Alessandra Rampolla.
Together, and with the help of scientific analysis, the experts are able to figure out who would make the perfect matches on paper.
As fans are already fully aware of though, it doesn’t always go according to plan.
How did expert Mel Schilling meet her husband?
While Mel may be an expert when it comes to dating, she didn’t actually meet her husband until later on in life.
Mel was 39-years-old when she first met her future husband Gareth Brisbane who is originally from Northern Ireland.
Much like the couples on MAFS Australia, there was an element of surprise to the early days of the pair’s relationship.
Mel and Gareth had a long-distance romance for several weeks before seeing one another in person.

Speaking to OK! magazine, Mel explained: “I was single for my entire thirties. I wasn’t interested in anyone.
“I was busy travelling the world, working overseas, I was all about building my business and just living a great life.
“And so we were both nearly 40 when we met, and he just turned my world upside down.
“I was not expecting that! We met on [dating website] eHarmony.
“He’s from Whitehead in Northern Ireland, but he was living in Adelaide, and I was in Melbourne.
“We did long distance for six weeks, which was really pivotal in the success of our relationship because we didn’t physically meet for those six weeks, but we were communicating every day.”
Mel described their experience as a “retro style of dating” as they couldn’t physically meet up for a long period of time.
“I felt like that was a great way to build a solid foundation for a relationship before you complicate it with chemistry and sex. Once we got together, it was very quick.”
Mel went through IVF at the age of 42 to become pregnant with their daughter Madison who is now six-years-old.
She and long-term partner Gareth tied the knot on Christmas Eve last year.
MAFS Australia series eight is almost over on E4 in the UK with just another couple of weeks before it comes to an end.
There has been no official talk of the show returning for series nine but an E4 spokesperson has previously mentioned broadcasting MAFS Australia when it comes back.
So it appears it is more of a question of when rather than if it will return.
MAFS Australia season eight is available to watch on E4.
