On Monday night the live Love Island final aired on ITV2 whilst viewers waited patiently to find out who would be crowned this year’s winners. But moments before the winners were revealed host Maya Jama was forced to step in and give Kai and Sanam a warning.

The winter series of the hit dating show drew to a close on Monday, as Maya entered the Cape Town villa one last time to announce the winners.

Four couples were left in the final: Ron and Lana, Tom and Samie, Tanya and Shaq and Kai and Sanam.

Maya, who has taken over hosting duties from Laura Whitmore this series, held a final interview with Kai and Sanam to look back at their journey on the show.

The presenter looked back at teacher Kai and social worker Sanam’s time in the villa, and brought up his previous coupling with Olivia Hawkins.

Kai had been coupled up with Olivia prior to Sanam’s arrival during Casa Amor, where they formed a serious connection.

When Olivia returned to the villa she also recoupled with another contestant, Maxwell Samuda but there was still some bad blood between the former flames.

When Olivia was mentioned during the final interview, Kai and Sanam immediately pulled awkward faces at each other.

Maya was quick to pull the couple up on their reactions as she said: “Don’t do that face!”

Viewers took to Twitter to weigh in on their reaction with one writing: “The face Sanam made when they mentioned Olivia #loveisland.”

A second said: “‘You were coupled up with Olivia- Kai don’t do that face’ I LOVE THIS MAN #loveisland.”

The public seemed firmly on their side, as shortly after this interaction, Kai and Sanam were announced as the winners of the series.

Kai and Sanam took home a shared £50,000 as the producers did away with the option to “Split or Steal” the prize money.

Ron and Lana just missed out on the winnings in second place, with Tom and Samie in third and Tanya and Shaq in fourth place.

Some viewers wondered what Olivia might think of their win as one wrote: “#loveisland I bet Olivia is p****ed rn.”

Earlier in the series when Olivia and Kai had been in the bottom three she had placed the blame squarely on his shoulders.

Another viewer wrote: “I really hope someone caught Olivia’s reaction to Kai and Sanam winning #loveisland.”

Before the final aired the last elimination of the series occurred on Sunday night, with Will and Jessie being dumped from the villa.

But before viewers officially found out who was going home, an error caused the dumped couple to be featured in a clip during an ad break.

The clip stated Maya would be chatting with dumped couples Jessie and Will and Casey and Rosie, revealing the result before the main show.

To make matters worse Maya had already posted a video on her Instagram which showed Jessie and Will stood behind her in the Aftersun studio.
