Miriam Margolyes stuns Phillip Schofield as she claims she knew he was gay

PHILLIP Schofield was left blushing after being told by Miriam Margolyes that she "knew" he was gay.

The telly star, 59, giggled and shrugged as Miriam said she found him "a bit camp" the first time they met.

During an interview on This Morning, Miriam said to Phil: "You've been very brave. You've come out. I sort of thought you might be gay, you know, when I met you. Because you're a bit camp!"

Rolling his eyes and shrugging his shoulders, Phillip replied: "Yeah…"

The actress, who is an OBE, continued: "And I suppose I'm a bit camp too."

Phillip told her: "I think most people in telly are a bit camp if I'm honest!"

Agreeing, 80-year-old Miriam then asked Phillip if he is camp, to which he replied: "Yes, yes."

His co-host, Holly Willoughby, was then asked the same question. Smiling, she told Miriam: "Completely. I hope so!"

EMOTIONAL WIN

Phillip bravely announced he was gay on the This Morning sofa beside friend and co-star Holly Willoughby in February 2020.

While behind the scenes he was supported by his wife of 27 years Stephanie and daughters Molly and Ruby.

Last week, Phillip was left emotional as he picked up a British LGBT special recognition award

In a video, he said: "Wow. This is a biggie. What a proud moment for me personally.

"I've never won any award individually. Any award you win as a team that's there propping you up and definitely that's the case with this one.

"I had the most extraordinary people that helped me pack the parachute before the jump. Friends and family, loved ones and then there were an enormous amount of rainbow arms outstretched to catch me when I reached the bottom of my jump."

The TV star said he was overwhelmed by the warm welcome he has had from the gay community and thanked them for supporting him.

He said: "Life is a still a work in progress, but of course aren't we all? But it's been joyous to meet the people I have, to have heard the lovely things they've said to me and share a moment like this with you.

"I wish I was there. I'm sorry I'm not. I am enormously proud. Thank you."
