Steve Royle hit out at Rishi Sunak after his controversial ‘retraining’ comments

Britain's Got Talent star Steve Royle unleashed a blistering comment at Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, following his controversial comments earlier this week.

Sunak claimed that celebrities and entertainers who are struggling for work during the coronavirus pandemic, they should "retrain" for another vocation.

During his finale performance, Steve said: "Rishi Sunak, if you're watching – some of us can't possibly be retrained."

Following his variety performance, Royle received the first "standing ovation" from the virtual audience, tuning in via Zoom to adhere with social distancing guidelines.

Shortly after his performance, viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts, with one saying: "I [heart] emoji Steve Royle and that Rishi Sunak gag was bang on. #BGT."

While a second praised: "Steve Royle was everything I needed to watch on TV tonight, 'transferable skills' I was DEAD."

"Steve Royle giving it to Sunak. Legend #BGT," penned a third.

"If Sunak is watching Steve Royle he could retrain as a government adviser #BGT," blasted a fourth.

Royle was praised by all four judges, with David Walliams saying: "You are like all the best comedians rolled into one."

Rishi came under fire after saying people should "adapt" to other employment after the arts industry didn't receive funding from the government.

He told ITV News: "I can't pretend that everyone can do exactly the same job that they were doing at the beginning of this crisis,

"That's why we've put a lot of resource into trying to create new opportunities."

After being probed on supporting musicians, Sunak went on to suggest that there's work available for those in the entertainment but they would need to adapt.

Shortly after his comments, musicians took to social media to lash out at the government.

Liam Gallagher tweeted: "So the dopes in gov telling musicians and people in arts to retrain and get another job what and become massive c**ts like you? Nah yer alright c'mon you know LG x [sic]."
